Well, not if you class no passport and no visas as no problems! Its all gone so smoothly up until now! It appears that the Russian embassy are not as quick at processing visas as one would hope, but I have been assured that I will receive my passport with appropriate stamps in place on Friday 20th June before 12 midday - just in time to fly out of the country on Sunday 22nd June at 09.55 - cutting it a little fine me thinks! At least I didn't have to send my passport away to get NZ and Oz visas, they are much more up to date with technology and issue E-Visas - no rubber stamping there. Other than that things are still going relatively ok. Money arrives tomorrow and all the final tying up ... read more

Well, I'm back from a 3 day charter cruise to St Peter's Port, Guernsey. Pretty non-descript really, just a load of wealthy people on board to discuss business & how to promote & make their business better. Why they felt they had to do it on a bloody great big ship I don't know?! Some event company hired out the ship, & we didn't even dock at dry land, we were just floating for most of the time. Still, we made target in the shops so that's a night off on the next cruise for me. Off to Barcelona next, have 3 sea days & then into Barcelona. Monte Carlo, Santa Margherita etc etc after that. You will be certain to hear about my travels with this 2 week cruise around the med!!... read more

The date was the 18th of September, 1972 and I was nine years old at the time. The place was the France, a liner carrying my family and me to Europe for nine months while my father enjoyed his sabbatical. We were all eating lunch when Mom announced that she had a special treat for that afternoon. In the cinema, her favourite movie of all time was playing - “Gone With The Wind” and she was taking us to see it with her. It was the beginning of a love affair with the movie, the book and especially Clark Gable that continues to this day. So, you can imagine my reaction when I saw that playing in London this summer was “Gone With The Wind - The Musical”. There is only one person in the whole ... read more

Things are getting a little hectic now, realising how much I have left to do, and now I have got myself a job for when I'm in New Zealand, so I have ever more paperwork to fill out. Not only the working holidays visa, but the New Zealand Nursing council registration too. How many forms does one person need to complete! Oh well, nearly there 5 weeks and 5 days! Then I may have something interesting to say in my blog. x... read more

Payed the final balance for my trip on Monday - OMG! its all becoming a bit real now. I have just over 7 weeks left and feel completely unprepared. I feel like I have no idea where I'm going, what I want to see, how I'm going to get around, how much money I need to take with me. I'm hoping these are all normal fears for a first time traveller and they will pass. The thing that is most scary, is that no matter how many time I listen to my 'quick and easy way to learn Russian' and 'Chinese Mandarin made simple' or whatever they are called, my soggy, mashed up, over worked brain will not take it in! So I'm going to be stuck in a foreign land on my own with a ... read more

Ok, having read a few blogs since registering in the 'wee small hours of the morning' I am afraid I have nothing exciting to say. Not really a good start to things, but also the fact that it is 1am and I'm sat at work on my break is also not inspiring to many travellers. So why am I writing a travel blog now is a question I'm sure some will ask (if anyone reads this entry at all)? As all of you who are already travelling will have experienced, the build up to the trip is scary and exciting and hard work, so while I am at work, on my very long and drawn out night shift earning all those much needed extra pennies before my trip begins, researching the best places to visit in ... read more

Well, after a 24 plane flight from Auckland to London with a brief stop-over in Bangkok, I was relieved when we finally made it to our Accommodation in Southampton. We are staying with relatives of Tamsin in a place called Romsey. So far we have seen Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, The Spinnaker Tower, Winchester Abbey, King Arthurs Round Table, the Titanic Museum and the Southampton Aviation Museum. The temperature is pretty cold but not as bad as the thermometer makes it out to be. Although it has been snowing up in Edinburgh which I am not looking forward to. Fingers crossed its over in the next two weeks.... read more

Hullo, This is a tester entry on my soon to be regular item to see if all you lovely people get notified an entry has been made. If it doesnt, its rubbish, if it does, hello again. Italic Text Read the introduction on the profile to get gist of what this is all about (sorry it couldnt be longer!??). Italic Text I may be jumping the gun ala dwane chambers on EPO, but 4 weeks isnt that long really....just think, in that time, the Millenium Bug came and went like a crook in the night, Saints got rubbish(er) at football, England stayed mainly cold, and public sector I.T support remained a misnomer and a darn lie. so, for now, adios amigos ... read more

LUGGAGE HIGHS AND LOWS This morning was one of those days of euphoric highs and disgusted lows. The cabin steward woke me up at the regular hour of 8 AM with my juice, coffee and croissant and after watching the morning TV and getting myself together (which means which borrowed clothes do I wear today), I went up to breakfast in the dining room and told the waiter to bring me a “full English breakfast”. This consists of 2 fried eggs, English bacon, a Wiltshire sausage, baked beans, mushrooms, a fried tomatoe, home fries and toast. Yummers !!!!!!! When I got back to the cabin, my telephone light was on indicating a message, so I called the Purser’s Desk and was told my luggage had been found and I could go up there to get the ... read more

Oh dear….what a terrible situation!!!!! The cabin steward appeared promptly at 8 AM and place some OJ, coffee and a couple breakfast rolls on the dresser in my little sitting area, so I relaxed thinking of how to attack my situation. After some fresh fruit and another coffee in the Lido, I went to the Pursers Office to fax the British Airways baggage claim form. That was when they realized the extent of my predicament and pulled out all stops. First, they sent me to the on-board shops where one could rent a tuxedo. In my case, however, they loaned me the jacket, pants, 2 shirts, tie and cummerbund for the entire week. Bringing that down to my cabin, I was met by the Chief Housekeeper who offered all the toiletries I wanted and invited me ... read more
