I'm off again! Escape plan has been drawn up and I'm flying into the sun again on Tuesday! For anyone I've not talked to yet, Gerry and I are going to Crete to volunteer with an organisation called Archelon, who work to protect the Loggerhead turtles in Greece. Thought I better put my environmental training to some use and do something for the planet. I'll be writing about what I'm doing, seeing etc. so if you're interested look back here. If anyone wants to know more about the charity we're working for then here is a link to their website: Archelon See you all in a few weeks, Fxx... read more

Well folks, this is it for this trip. Tomorrow I'm on a big white Delta Airlines plane from Gatwick to JFK connecting to another smaller Delta plane to Ft. Lauderdale after going thru immigration and customs at JFK. This 4th portion of the trip was a busy one. After taking the S Bahn out to Schoenefeld Airport, I waited for my EasyJet flight after watching the police chase down some guy who decided to run across the tarmac rather than simply board his RyanAir flight. Wierdly enough, the next day, I saw the Southampton police chase down a guy on the city streets and take him down as well. Wonder if they were related? My EasyJet ticket, btw, cost only about USD$24.00, but I had to pay about USD$35.00 in taxes !!!!! Not only did ... read more

Back in Southampton Again :) I'm finally getting the hang of changing trains 5 times to go 100 miles. And I've started looking up at the board to see, not if the train is on time, but just how late it will be. It started to stress me out at first because if my first train is late, I may miss my next one, the one after that, and so on. But all the trains here are late so the system works quite well :) The first evening I went out to dinner with Paul's friends that we're going to Glastonbury with. They were there in 2005 when it flooded, so it was good to get some advice about what to pack. Hopefully their horror stories have prepared me for the worst and I'll have ... read more

Still in Southampton We were due to leave home on Thursday 10 May but we have a failed step into the motorhome. This now needs fixing by the garage we bought the mh from, Freeborn of Southampton. Fortunately, we shall only need to take it to Hedge End but it means a delay of a couple of days. The weather has become colder and so we are wanting to go now. For those who have not yet seen our Autocruise Starblazer I shall include a photo or two. The nice thing about it is the capacity of a rear store/garage which can take all our three bikes. We hope to cycle a lot around France on day rides moving every so often in the motorhome. However, as you may realise, the delay means that I ... read more

Hi all, welcome to my travel blog! I have decided that this is the easiest way to keep everyone informed on what I'm up to over the three and a half months that I'm away. Not only will I be making diary entries but I'll upload photos as and when I can. Route I depart from Heathrow on Sunday 29th April and fly to LA for a brief stopover, then it's on to the Cook Islands, where I will stay for eleven nights. Next is Fiji for 2 weeks, then New Zealand for 3 weeks, followed by Australia for 7.5 weeks. Hong Kong is our final destiation and I arrive back in the UK on the 12th August. Right, that's all for now, my next update will be from somewhere hot and sunny! ... read more

I had never imagined that my Easter holidays would be as eventful, joyous and rewarding as this year's. Reason, I'm so used to spending this period with family going to church - and therefore thought I would be very bored since in the UK I haven't had time to really get to know the Christian community where I live. Nonetheless, I took off to Southampton, a lovely and quiet city just outside Winchester, south of England. The weather was attractively stunning when I arrived and I was reminded of Durban. The scenery, the lakes, the gardens and the waterfront all caught my attention as I landed - it was like I had set foot on a different part of Europe! The landscape in the outskirts of the city was irresistibly beautiful!! My friends, Derrick, Tebogo and ... read more

Following Brendan’s newly planned career change, and therefore location change, Leah and I took the opportunity to use Brendan’s free accommodation to visit Southampton, and have a free tour guide at the same time. By some kind of luck, 2 minutes after when we got back to office from lunch on Friday, there was a power cut. At 4.30, I finally gave up waiting, and used the good excuse to leave the office early to start our journey South. Brendan and I meet Leah and Waterloo and caught the train down to Southampton. We went into ‘Oxford Street’, the main restaurant area, and finally got to take Leah to Pizza Express. After dinner we caught a taxi to Brendan’s flat in Bitterne and laxed out in the lounge, before the three of us shacked up in ... read more

17th Nov - Day 1 The day started trying to convince Cally that the small space she had crammed into wasn't really suitable for such a fat cat! Pretty unsuccessful and only biscuits could drag her out briefly. The day dragged on as I just wanted to be moving and starting my epic journey. So with some trepidation set off extra early to pick up my luggage and the infamous surfboard. By this time the heavens had opened and continued to be open. Managed to get the surfboard in the car, diagonally and balanced on the passengers seat head rest. Decided to leave a little early, to compensate for the rain and the fact I'd hit the M25 at rush hour. Good decision as the road was heaving and the torrential rain slowed everything down. The ... read more
