Despite a dreary Cornish morning and warnings of more bad weather to come, the sun poked from behind the clouds for most of the afternoon. One awful hill approaching Exeter aside, this was a lot less troubling. We saw a 15% gradient sign of a fairly steep climb, but we'd done far steeper already. Rolfe got another puncture. Plymouth is a bit of a dump and all its traffic lights were on red. We reacquainted ourselves with the other End-to-Enders the Exeter Youth Hostel. No-one had given up yet. 64 miles. Just over 5 hours in the saddle.... read more

Well only 34 days to go before we set off on our trip. Obviously things are hectic at the moment as we finalise things but at least we can now see light at the end of the tunnel - at long last. Although this trip has been our dream for the last 5 years the reality of what we are about to embark on has only really hit us over the last few months. People have asked us if we are looking forward to our holiday! This trip however is not really a holiday. Not knowing where you are going to sleep each night cannot exactly be classed as a normal holiday. Likewise, being on the road for over a year will be both a physical and mental challenge. Nevertheless we are both up for the ... read more

Well this whole idea of blogging is new to me. It should allow you to stalk me without going on facebook, and for those without facebook to gain stalking abilities! There is a feature on this site where if you click 'subscribe' it will send you an email for when I have updated this page. hopefully over the next 6 weeks I'll be able to put up some photos and give you the low down of what I am up to, be sure to leave some comments telling me how much you all miss me and wish you were out in Thailand and ya da ya da ya. I don't leave until this afternoon so I'm doing the last minute sweep before a 3/4 hr train trip to heathrow and a 14 hr flight to le ... read more

Wayne drove us down to Plymouth for our first UK dive trip of the season. We stopped en-route at Stonehenge making use of our English Heritage membership. It seemed to take forever to get there, and then when we finally arrived at our destination we struggled to find a parking spot (Wayne found one an parked with inches to spare!). We got to the pub checked in and had some dinner yum yum. After a much needed rest we woke early for breakfast headed to the quay and loaded the boat - bit rushed to get on board but we made it. We headed out to sea, and it was a bit rough so the skipper decided we should stay in the harbour and dive the breakwater fort. It was a pleasent enough dive but a ... read more

4.10.08 Caught ferry to Dartmouth down the River Dart, very scenic and peaceful. The commentator spoke near the entire time, and I was interested that everyone was fascinated with near every bird and creature. Perhaps the downside of a long history (if there is one) is less wild lands. Busked more in Darthmouth. 4.11.08 Stayed at the YHA in a beautiful coastal town called Salcomb. Classic town with narrow streets, village charm and right on the water - an estuary comes in. Did a nice walk up the bluff. Did more busking in Dartmouth. Not a bad income here for getting some practice time in, something like $18/hr. Apparently the Queen was in town for the day - it was her 60th wedding anniversary. Apparently she had met her husband in Dartmouth way back when. It ... read more

It's been quite a long hiatus since we last made an entry on this blog so I'm here to do my best to retrospectively update everyone on our trips. I've started with the longest delay about about 6 months so bear with me. We woke up good and early again this morning and set off for our first walkie of the day. We were headed for a trail called Little Dartmouth which was supposed to drop us out right at the top of Dartmouth Castle. Of course, before we could start on this short but interesting walk we had to figure out how to drive there. We had done very well with the navigating so far this trip, but today there was an added obstacle. A river ferry. We found the ferry dock alright, and knew ... read more

My First Blog by Hollie aged 23 and 1/4. After months of wistful dreaming and not a lot of planning I am just a few hours away from beginning my Great Adventure. I am setting off to Japan to feed my curiosity, to Australia to fulfil a life's wish and to New Zealand to take in the view. I first went travelling in 2006. After finishing my three year degree at Cardiff University and wasting the following summer watching daytime television and internet surfing, I set off for five weeks with my good friend Lindsay. With our inter-rail tickets in hand we spent an amazing time visiting cities across Western Europe. For me the travel bug was well and truly hatched. The plan of moving out of the family home and getting a proper career (dum ... read more

Once, I read that you must leave a place while you are still fascinated by it...it's too late for me as, not only I got rid of the spell England once had over me, but I'm totally fed up of being here, to say it clear and simple... But, after more than five years, I just don't feel right leaving full of questions about "what it could have been", so I have decided to give another chance to this country that, let's face it, has given me a lot of them, from learning a new language, to be able to live on my own all these years, to the fact that, it was in an english pub where I met the man of my life... So, with a new attitude and the childish mentality of seeing ... read more

Hey! We've been living in Dawlish, Devon since we came back to England after the summer. We have a great flat right on the English Channel. I am finishing up my classes and Al is finishing up his teaching certificaitons. We have been staying really busy. We have decided to run a marathon this spring in Belfast. So we've joined the local gym and have been training nearly every day. I can't wait. We've also decided to take a trip to Morocco in mid-March. So, we've brought our travel blogs back to life so that we can keep everyone updated again with the Marathon and trip. We'll be doing quite a few runs that we'll be posting on here. This weekend we are heading into London for a reunion for the 9/11 summer camp we volunteer ... read more
