Italy

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
Venice (5.12.08 - 5.15.08) Jumped on the train, feels good to be moving again. I love train travel. I could just tour all over Europe and stop for a night or two in different places. Heading towards Florence now. A bit about Venice - the train goes right onto the island and that last bit going across the water feels like the north New Orleans area; mostly water and some oil refinery looking facilities. Venice is a classic post card, everywhere feels like you’re there. Seldom does every aspect of a place speak the character of that place. Mostly a place [View Full Entry]

took ferry from England to France, then train thru Belgium to the Netherlands.
Update... from Ireland up to the Netherlands... April 27 (about 2 weeks ago) I took a ferry from SE Ireland to Wales. I stayed in Wales for a few days in a town called Swansea, where it was very restful and productive. I worked on music, read , wrote, did laundry and ate well. It rained a bunch. On May 1, I trained to London, met up with Anne's good friend Carla and later on with Elan and his honey Dia. We celebrated his 30th birthday. Good times. With a few more days in London I stayed at Jessica's again in [View Full Entry]

Ireland

Europe » Ireland » County Donegal » Donegal
Hey folks, thanks for your interest. I got to Ireland, Friday 4.18.08 and left Sunday 4.27.08 (yesterday), rented a car and basically went 3 different places: First Galway town in the west (including the rural Connemara area to the northwest of there), then heading eastward I happened to stop in a town called Bundoran, in County Donegal, where there was decent surf and nice folks. The last part of my trip was briefly passing through Belfast and Dublin. Initially I came to Ireland in hopes to see Bruce Molsky play - a favorite musician of mine (amazing at fiddle, banjo and [View Full Entry]

4.18.08 Update since back in London… Dartmoor was incredible. Got back into London, and enjoying it better this time. A tale from the hostel...(rated R) First night back at the hostel a pretty young lady stepped in the room while I was about to go down and make dinner. We got to chatting and decided to go get some dinner at a Greek restaurant just down the street, it was raining. She’s Canadian and lives and works in Wales and was down in London to go on a cooking network TV show. We had a bottle or so of wine, and [View Full Entry]

4.10.08 Caught ferry to Dartmouth down the River Dart, very scenic and peaceful. The commentator spoke near the entire time, and I was interested that everyone was fascinated with near every bird and creature. Perhaps the downside of a long history (if there is one) is less wild lands. Busked more in Darthmouth. 4.11.08 Stayed at the YHA in a beautiful coastal town called Salcomb. Classic town with narrow streets, village charm and right on the water - an estuary comes in. Did a nice walk up the bluff. Did more busking in Dartmouth. Not a bad income here for getting [View Full Entry]

So folks after much ado, here's my travel blog. If you don't want to get emails about this every 5 days or so, there should be an easy way to unsubscribe. Feel free to invite others. I hope you'll find this enjoyable, inspiring and easy to use. The trip has been awesome thus far. Here goes... 4.5.08 (Friday) Landed in London. Got hostel and slept. 4.6-7.08 Toured around London. Stayed with Aaron Daly's uncle Robin and Nancy Daly. Very nice folks. Their place is quite small, and they are very efficient at using their space - every inch of it. It [View Full Entry]
