Caught ferry to Dartmouth down the River Dart, very scenic and peaceful. The commentator spoke near the entire time, and I was interested that everyone was fascinated with near every bird and creature. Perhaps the downside of a long history (if there is one) is less wild lands. Busked more in Darthmouth.

Stayed at the YHA in a beautiful coastal town called Salcomb. Classic town with narrow streets, village charm and right on the water - an estuary comes in. Did a nice walk up the bluff. Did more busking in Dartmouth. Not a bad income here for getting some practice time in, something like $18/hr. Apparently the Queen was in town for the day - it was her 60th wedding anniversary. Apparently she had met her husband in Dartmouth way back when. It was not mayhem, but busier than normal. Took train to Exeter, staying at the backpacker lodge, with a diverse cross section of society. It is social living, which is a nice change from what I am used to. Preparing some for my journey into Dartmoor tomorrow - a higher elevation hill country with variable weather and not much around. Most people tell me to

be careful - that it can be dangerous... the way people talk, it sounds a bit mysterious...We shall see. Need to gear up a little bit before the trip.

Back is quite sore in the middle. Need to find a massage therapist, or chiropractor. (due to trekking across pavement w/ heavy pack).

The moor is a beautiful place. It feels magical & timeless. Old stone carvings, post markers, crosses, rock outcroppings with hidden nooks, etc. I found a letter box today! It was a magical moment to behold. I felt gifted to have been allowed to be shown. It was when I went to look after the sheep that I found it, in an unexpected spot. I met a man out on the moor today who was acting as a guide or leader for boys (on the verge of becoming men) doing training. It was part of the 10 Tors training, but said there was a group started by the Duke of (something w/ E?) designed to give boys a chance to find themselves in nature - like a better United Way or Big Brother organization… getting kids in the wilderness, teaching them skills
and leadership & team work. Cool idea.
