It's been nearly 3 years since we came back from our honeymoon and, since then, we have been to a few places... none of them as exotic as the Cook Islands, or as cheap as Indonesia, or with food as fantastic as Thailand but, none the less, they have all been great on their own rights, because of the experience we had there, or the landscape, the people or the food... or all of it together!! You can read about this trips on our past blogs: we took a van trip around Germany and Austria to visit family and friends; I spent a month studying and visiting Seoul and after that we had an amazing week sailing around Mallorca and Cabrera, in the Balearic islands with our family. We have also been to Scotland, finally after ... read more
Finally, after more than 8 years living in the UK, we've been to Scotland! (we only have to go to Northern Ireland to have been in the 4 'kingdoms'). Galicians and Scottish are like cousins: we both come from the Celts, we pay bagpipes, we're used to rough weather and we like our food (although in Galicia we don't have much deep fried stuff). Thanks to Will and Kate for getting married on the 28th and giving us an extra bank holiday and, therefore, nearly 10 days off!... it was the perfect opportunity, so we packed the van and, with Thomas and Liz, headed for the North! At the last minute, we decided to rent a caravan, thinking that Scotland would probably be rainy and the four of us in the camper van would be a ... read more
After the week with Peter Pan we went scuba diving in Santa Ponsa, and I run out of air!... it never happened before and it was quite interesting: after a year and a half of no diving, I was quite excited and my mask was leaking water all the time, so I wasn't very comfortable, so the result was that after about half an hour, I had to breathe through the instructor's emergency regulator for the last 10 mins!! Dax got the surprise of his life when my Uncle lent us his BMW motorbike and we could spent our last 3 days on the island driving in style (I was very scared I must admit!): it takes a while to get used to the noise in the helmet, the wind and the fact that you are ... read more
With this blog I would like to prove that there is much more to do in Majorca than staying at a hotel, roast on the beach during the day (next to the hotel) and spend the night drinking until your liver explodes (at the hotel bar)... Those of you who know us, would know that we don't have lots of money, but we consider ourselves rich in other aspects, such as having a wonderful family or enjoying what we have instead of complaining for what we don't have; but this year we decided to spoil ourselves and rent a sailing boat with some other members of our family for a week, to mix among the brave souls who spend their summers floating on the clear Mediterranean waters around Majorca. And so we arrived at the docks ... read more
Last 2 weeks have been busy and, in consequence, have gone fast!: We went to a baseball game between Doosan Bears and LG Twins. We supported the Bears... just because it was the home team; it was a great evening, except for the humidity which was nearly unbearable, I was glad I brought my Spanish hand fan with me, I made good use of it!. Also to a "Korean etiquette workshop", where we could dress up with the hanbok, the traditional Korean outfit; funny enough, they gave me one with the Spanish flag colours on it!. Ben and I skipped a couple of classes... I know, I know... but there are many things we still want to do before we leave and there's no time, so we had to "sacrifice" the class . So instead of ... read more
Somehow I managed to get past the equator of my little Korean ordeal... The week went fast, between classes and homework. On Tuesday we met the "head of the Korean Society" of Surrey University, who is from Seoul; he took us to the Aquarium and then invited us for dinner; it was a great afternoon!. I loved the aquarium, there were so many fish!... it made me want to jump into the tank and dive with them; and then we saw a couple of divers doing some cleaning in the sardine tank... oh man was I jealous?; I'm so looking forward to Majorca!. Then the University took us to Jeon-Ju for a weekend trip with expenses paid: transport, accommodation and food... not bad!. We left on Saturday early in the morning, under heavy rain, for a ... read more
Another week has gone and it was better than the 1st... this makes me think the next will be even better, and the next even better, and the next... the last one! After the weekend I got a bit stressed because we were told we would have 3 tests every week: a Korean test after each class and one on my other module every Friday... OMG!... this is even harder than the actual degree! ;o) I have been hanging out with a couple of girls who, even though they're very young, are not into the drinking frenzy the young Americans seem to be due, I guess, to the fact that in America they are actually underage to drink, so they are making the most of it here! ;o) This weeks flew by: with the 2 Korean ... read more
The University has given me a grant to come to Seoul to "study" for 5 weeks, so here I am. Some of you may be wondering, when you see the pictures, why Dax is not on any of them; well, the answer is because he hasn't come!... and I miss him so much!. But you may be surprised to see me in the company of another male figure; this is Sam, also from my University. The flight was long... at the end I was even sick, just before landing; lack of sleep, change of hours, food in the plane (it was a bad idea to choose the Korean option for breakfast: rice porrige with green tea sauce and seaweed)... the first day wasn't enjoyable... neither was the first night, or the second... the 3rd was a ... read more
Austria For those of you who follow my blog, you'll know that I've been in Austria a few times, and every one of those times, I've been to Piesendorf... a very nice place, but I want to see more!!. The friends in Piesendorf are wonderful and always welcome us with open arms... even when, unfortunately, we arrive on the day of the funeral of the grandmother... a sad day made more bearable with the company of friends... As usual, they treated us very nicely, they fed us more than we needed; what we didn't expect was to see more snow this year... but we did see it, and loads of it! From Piesendorf, we went to Linz; after all these days of hospitality, we were used to have free food, so we couldn't imagine we ... read more
Germany, part 1 For the hundredth time we drove through half Europe to reach Germany... I enjoy more and more every tiem, and now that we have a van it's even better! This time we took the train, much faster than the ferry; many people say it's a bit claustrophobic because it's under the sea and there is no exit... well, I just don't think about it and it's fine. Dax went to bed even before the train started... of course, I stayed in front reading, which was quite difficult due to the flock of teenagers (already drunk at 2 in the afternoon) which were going on holidays to some unfortunate place in Europe; there were buses loaded with them! But we arrived safe and sound to France, and Belgium and Germany where, as usual, we ... read more
