Another week has gone and it was better than the 1st... this makes me think the next will be even better, and the next even better, and the next... the last one! After the weekend I got a bit stressed because we were told we would have 3 tests every week: a Korean test after each class and one on my other module every Friday... OMG!... this is even harder than the actual degree! ;o) I have been hanging out with a couple of girls who, even though they're very young, are not into the drinking frenzy the young Americans seem to be due, I guess, to the fact that in America they are actually underage to drink, so they are making the most of it here! ;o) This weeks flew by: with the 2 Korean ... read more

The University has given me a grant to come to Seoul to "study" for 5 weeks, so here I am. Some of you may be wondering, when you see the pictures, why Dax is not on any of them; well, the answer is because he hasn't come!... and I miss him so much!. But you may be surprised to see me in the company of another male figure; this is Sam, also from my University. The flight was long... at the end I was even sick, just before landing; lack of sleep, change of hours, food in the plane (it was a bad idea to choose the Korean option for breakfast: rice porrige with green tea sauce and seaweed)... the first day wasn't enjoyable... neither was the first night, or the second... the 3rd was a ... read more

Austria For those of you who follow my blog, you'll know that I've been in Austria a few times, and every one of those times, I've been to Piesendorf... a very nice place, but I want to see more!!. The friends in Piesendorf are wonderful and always welcome us with open arms... even when, unfortunately, we arrive on the day of the funeral of the grandmother... a sad day made more bearable with the company of friends... As usual, they treated us very nicely, they fed us more than we needed; what we didn't expect was to see more snow this year... but we did see it, and loads of it! From Piesendorf, we went to Linz; after all these days of hospitality, we were used to have free food, so we couldn't imagine we ... read more

Europe » Germany April 1st 2010

Germany, part 1 For the hundredth time we drove through half Europe to reach Germany... I enjoy more and more every tiem, and now that we have a van it's even better! This time we took the train, much faster than the ferry; many people say it's a bit claustrophobic because it's under the sea and there is no exit... well, I just don't think about it and it's fine. Dax went to bed even before the train started... of course, I stayed in front reading, which was quite difficult due to the flock of teenagers (already drunk at 2 in the afternoon) which were going on holidays to some unfortunate place in Europe; there were buses loaded with them! But we arrived safe and sound to France, and Belgium and Germany where, as usual, we ... read more

After 2 hours of driving, we arrived, hungry and sleepy to the Ferry Terminal in Dover, just to hear the most feared sentence by all travelers: "you are not on the list". What??... I did the booking myself, we must be there... A little run through the city to find internet connection and a check of the emails later, we went back to the terminal, a bit embarrassed to admit that I made a mistake and I had booked the route the other way around, so we were supposed to come from France today and leave the Uk in a week's time... oooopppsss!!!! But there's nothing that money can't buy and, after paying 3 times the amount we initially paid, we set sail... That was the most interesting thing that happened to us (or better, me) ... read more

Europe » Spain February 1st 2009

We have finished the best five months of our lives... and because I love making lists, I've decided to do a list of the best and worse of those days on the road; I hope you enjoy it!! The best places 1. Aitutaki, Cook Islands, a tropical paradise. 2. Pulau Sipadan, Sabah, Malaysia, pretty on land, amazing under water. 3. Gili Air, Lombok, Indonesia, cristal clear water, mango juice and friendly locals. 4. Singapore, clean and organised. 5. Bay of Islands, North Island, New Zealand, few people, lots of dolphins. The worse places 1. Kuta beach, Bali, Indonesia, dirty, noisy and full of drunk tourists. 2. Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia, full of rats and rubbish, and I got bed bugs. The best experiences 1. Celebrate our wedding on the beach, at sunset, just the 2 of us, ... read more

We have arrived to our last destination... after this, it will be back to Singapore to catch the plane back to Europe... Sabah is humid; we arrived in Sandakan during the rainy season... and it rains; and when it doesn't, the humidity is so high that it feels as if it's raining. But people here are very friendly and seem really interested in you as a person and not a wallet. We didn't want to get a taxi from the airport to town, so we started walking: many people were greeting us on the road and the bus driver charged us a local fare and not a "tourist" one... I like Sabah... During our stay in Sandakan, Dax was ill with fever, so we spent 4 days, pretty much watching tv and only going out to ... read more

Rumor has it that certain airline is paying big cash to the Cambodian government so they won't make the road from the Thai border to Siem Reap, let's say, driveable... It takes less that 4 hours to drive from Bangkok to the border, but 6 to cover the 162 kms from the border to Siam Reap... the road is... well, it's not a road, just a dirt track with some tarmac at some places... Dust is just everywhere, and the houses next to the road are covered in a red layer of earth... I wonder how people can live there... some of them walk around with face masks... just some... But we made it to the temples... fighting to avoid the tuk-tuk drivers who insist they are too far to go by bike... it was a ... read more

When, after scratching my legs, my nails were black, I realised I spent 4 days without a shower... I didn't care, I thought that, maybe this way people will give me some personal space... when I saw it wasn't working, I made contact with the water... After 16 days with Aimar, he went back to England leaving us totally addicted to soy milk; in a way I was jelaous: he'll see family and friends, sleep in his bed and eat his favourite foods... but I guess he'll miss pad thais... It won't be long before we meet with him, once again, in the English cold; the pound is weaker and weaker every day and our money is worth a third of what it was when we left... and we don't worry too much about the budget ... read more
