All of you who have been waiting for something to happen know how slowly the time goes...but, even slowly it DOES go...so we finally have left our jobs, our house and our routine to go and search for the unknown and explore the world...or almost... As a kind of a training, we start our trip on familiar lands, where we can understand the language and know people...because you have a house where you have friends... We were in Santander a couple of years ago, and the highlight was a "cave expedition" which we wanted to do again... But this time we weren't so lucky... our own private cave-guide was on holidays himself so we couldn't do it again... it was quite disappointing, really, as it is a fantastic experience, but we went river-rafting kind of thing ... read more

That's it...I'm officially unemployed... and so happy about it!!! I had my last shift (from hell thanks to this new 2 for 1 vouchers!!) yesterday... and it "only" lasted 13.5 hours so you can imagine why I am so happy... I haven't yet understood completely that I am free, that I don't have to work any more for a long, long time and that, from now on, I can do what I want when I want (except for the little detail of Dax still working... germans, you know... they can't help it!!!). We'll be leaving England in 8 days and I have a mix of emotions: I feel relieved that I don't have to serve tables any more; exited about the coming weeks in Spain and the prospect of long sunny days and tasty home made ... read more

The worse nightmares of a waitress are the Surrey housewives and the teenagers... well, the restaurant were I work seems to have them both by the million... I've been working there, on and off, for about three years... and I have decided to put my little stories together to give a clearer idea of how a Spanish girl feels working in a restaurant in Surrey... Worse times: -"I want the foreign girl to be our servant, mummy!!", said by a 5 year old. The parents didn't say anything... -"Do you speak English?", said by...many people; and I wonder: would that person and I be having any kind of conversation if I wouldn't speak English?...I admit I have an accent (I'm Spanish and I can't and don't want to lose my accent) and I probably have many ... read more

I've been twice in Austria before this time and, on both occasions, I only went to Piesendorf...don't take me wrong, it's a beautiful place, but Austria is big(ish) and there's more to do than waking up every day surrounded by mountains and beautiful landscapes...isn't it??...so this time I wanted to see a bit more but, with lack of time, we could only spend one day in Salzburg before we headed again to (guess where!!) Piesendorf to meet Martin's (aka Ozzy Osbourne) family and, eventually, Ozzy himself... We had to leave Guildford at 3 am to get to the airport on time...it was a long way and it was pouring like mad...but all was worth it in the end as Salzburg was beautiful: we entered through a parking carved in the mountain guts, very impressive. By the ... read more

When I see Surrey from the ground I see a place full of "Surrey-housewives", those evil creatures that go to restaurants to complain about how much dressing their salads have or how their Pinot Grigio is not cold enough, unleash their little terrifying monsters to let them run through the restaurant and spend hours talking about nappies, useless au-pairs o high heels... From the sky, Surrey opens to a new dimension... I've been waiting since September to do this, as Dax decided that, turning 30 was a perfect opportunity to give me something that, despite of having vertigo, I have always wanted to do...ride a hot air balloon!!...the craziness of the cows and sickness of the sheep kept us waiting for 8 long months...but the day was finally here... Our captain's name was Tony and his ... read more

One day less than yesterday, but one more than tomorrow to go and the clocks are against us, as each day seems to have an hour more than the previous one, they get longer and longer and it's very difficult to find something to do other than looking at maps and dreaming of roads that are waiting for us without them knowing. As you all know, because I've been saying it for months now, we're going for a bike ride...we don't know when we'll be back...that's assuming we won't stay in Aitutaki, paradise on Earth... This is the planned route so far, always keeping in mind that, just to let free will flow, we don't have any plans and, maybe, we'll feel like missing the plane from NZ to Australia and stay there seven months ... read more

Once, I read that you must leave a place while you are still fascinated by it...it's too late for me as, not only I got rid of the spell England once had over me, but I'm totally fed up of being here, to say it clear and simple... But, after more than five years, I just don't feel right leaving full of questions about "what it could have been", so I have decided to give another chance to this country that, let's face it, has given me a lot of them, from learning a new language, to be able to live on my own all these years, to the fact that, it was in an english pub where I met the man of my life... So, with a new attitude and the childish mentality of seeing ... read more
