After 2 hours of driving, we arrived, hungry and sleepy to the Ferry Terminal in Dover, just to hear the most feared sentence by all travelers: "you are not on the list". What??...
I did the booking myself, we must be there...
A little run through the city to find internet connection and a check of the emails later, we went back to the terminal, a bit embarrassed to admit that
I made a mistake and
I had booked the route the other way around, so we were supposed to come
from France today and leave the Uk in a week's time... oooopppsss!!!!
But there's nothing that money can't buy and, after paying 3 times the amount we initially paid, we set sail...
That was the most interesting thing that happened to us (or better, me) in a week busy with family and friends visits (now I know which of Dax's friends make an effort to talk to me in English and I only go and visit those... I am tired of sitting on a sofa being completely ignored while much
sprechen, sprechen is going on around me), and snow falling every day...
We had to fight
with the van, pretty much every day because the wheels weren't right for the German winter and it was more like ridding a sledge than a car.
On the way back to Calais, to get the ferry back to the Uk, we were stopped by the
polizei, accusing us of filling the van with petrol and not paying for it... I thought it was very stupid that they'd stopped us because, surely, they must have cameras!!, but when they told us that they were looking for a Ford Transit with a British number plate and light color, well, I understood that there probably aren't many British Ford Transits on that particular German road, or are there?...
They let us go after half an hour when one of their colleagues told them on the radio that the van they were looking for was white and not light blue...
