Baby Birds, I have somehow put you aside and have neglectedyour needs to hear from us and for that I apologize. I know your yearning and reliability on us but I just like to push the limits. Last time we posted we were actually in Interlaken but if you read and you better have, with some waffle fries, we were actually in Interlaken. Currently, we are in Roma and have been walking through fields of wheat leaving the ranks of slave to one of the most beloved pair of brothers in rome. But back to the topic of this post, Interlaken. All we can say is that the Fisser Brothers got their adrenaline fix there but are starting to get the itch again...So back to the adventure, we arrived in Interlaken, population 5290, according to lonely ... read more

Our road trip in the C class began early on Saturday morning. Heading south past Stuttgart on the autobahn we got our first go at testing whether we could break the elusive 200 mark. Quick description of the trip: Saturday 8/5 - travelled from Mainz to the Swiss border then onto Bern and Interlacken Sunday 9/5 - found the most expensive railway in Europe $150 to catch a train to the top of a mountain. Went to Luzerne on the way to Zurich overnight Monday 10/5 - travelled back to Mainz and got out speed record Our trip along the autobahn was fun until we got stuck in a traffic jam for an hour. We reached the magical 200 mark whilst Tubby was driving we detoured into a German city that I have forgotten the name ... read more

We arrived in Interlaken on Monday evening and spent yesterday hiking in the Alps. What an experience! The views are unbelievable! We wanted to take a train ride up Jungfraubahn which is the "Top of Europe", but it was cloudy at the top and we didn't want to waste a beautiful day on the 2.5 hour train ride up only to see clouds. Jungfraubahn is over 11,000 feet high. We hiked up to about 2600 feet and then took a gondola ride to 4800 feet and hiked a little more. I feel like this is somewhere I could live! Interlaken is known for it's outdoor adventures. Everything from hiking to bungee jumping is offered. Today we are going canyoning. From what I understand, canyoning is kind of a lot of things all wrapped up in one. ... read more

And so onto Switzerland as was next on our list of countries! We took the bus between Lyon - Berne (almost half the cost of train) which was about 5.5 hours via Geneva. Good journey all up and arrived at Berne (Capital of Swiss) at lunchtime and decided instead of heading straight there to lock our bags and take a chance to check out Berne as from the bus it looked like a cool city. And have to say we were pleasantly surprised it is well worth a look. The old town was pretty but very small, just 3 streets really but enough and plenty of views as it is quite high up. City itself had a really good old feel to it and the buildings had a lot of character. Found everything there to be ... read more

Day Thirteen 25 February 2010 Location: Interlaken (Switzerland) Hotel: Hotel Krebs After the fun of the previous day, in which Erin and I were restricted to bed rest and sleep, we awoke to our last full day in Interlaken and were thrilled to feel well enough to attempt a trip up the top of the mountain. While the bout of food poisoning had left us quite drained and run down, we were well enough to venture out and tackle the mountain. We also figured that the majority of the day would be spent on trains, offering us plenty of time to rest. We needed to start out early as the mountain is at least an 8 hour round trip. I’m not joking. We got up and dressed, though not quite as quickly as we usually would. ... read more

My apologies for the long overdue blog. It’s been a busy week and I have only now found some time to bring everyone up to speed! Day Twelve 24 February 2010 Location: Interlaken (Switzerland) Hotel: Hotel Krebs Well, I finished off the last blog with Erin and I coming down with a pretty severe case of food poisoning. I don’t want to go into detail and I’m unable to discuss what we ate as the thought of the meal that caused the illness still makes me queasy. I can tell you, regrettably, that day 12 were a complete write off. With both of us suffering from the painful effects of food poisoning on and off during the course of the night, we got little sleep. Luckily the worst was over by the time the sun rose ... read more

Day Eleven 23 February 2010 Location: Interlaken (Switzerland) Hotel: Hotel Krebs The sun arose on Day Eleven and Erin and I were both up reasonably earlier to get a fresh start on the day. We both knew that the majority of the activities lay within the towns dotted up the various mountains and that trains were required to get there. While we were dying to get up to the Jungfraujoch (the top of Europe), we wanted to get some familiarity with the region and decided that the ski village of Grindelwald would be a good place to start. Grindelwald is located about 40 minutes from Interlaken and sits at a height of about 3000ft. It’s a little bit smaller than Interlaken, but large enough to offer a variety of activities. We got dressed and decided to ... read more

INTERLAKEN Day 34 The next day I headed for Interlaken, which is winter sport central. It is also the location of Jungfraujoch Mountain, 4158meters. And near the top of this mountain is Europe’s highest train station. Since I hadn’t skied in years I decided that it wouldn’t be the best time to try it out again after my fall out of the shower I figured the risk of falling off a giant mountain would be too great. But I did decide that taking the scenic train to the Top of Europe was well worth the extra money that I had to pay. While waiting for my bus to take me to the train station a gorgeous hawk/eagle kept flying overhead. I saw it, or another one, three times today. I got to the train station ... read more

Day Ten 22 February 2010 Location: Paris & Interlaken (Switzerland) Hotel: Hotel Eiffel Seine & Hotel Krebs We awoke early on our tenth day and proceeded to pack up our bags and ready ourselves for the day of travelling ahead. Today we were departing Paris and moving on to the third leg of our journey, Switzerland. When Erin and I started planning our trip, we looked at a range of places we wished to visit and high on Erin’s list was Switzerland. While we had initially planned to either stay in Geneva or Zurich, it was soon decided that yet another European city might be a bit boring. As a result, we started looking for more remote towns and villages that might be off the beaten track. We settled on the small town of Interlaken. Interlaken ... read more

Interlaken, Switzerland Interlaken is a small town tucked away between two huge alpine lakes in the Swiss Alps. When the weather is warm it is an outdoor enthusiasts dream - with everything from skydiving to zoorbing (going down a hill inside of an inflated ball). I spent just under a week here after my adventures in Spain and France (and it was COLD!). I had previously spent almost two weeks here during my last trip to Europe, and had an absolute blast! I was eager to see what it would be like in the winter. Skiing One of the main things that I wanted to do in Interlaken was ski. It has been a while since I had a chance to ski on some real mountains, so I was pretty excited about the opportunity. I didn’t ... read more
