G'day!

My name is Paul and I'm an australian that loves to travel. I get to see Australia quite a bit as I fly regularly with work, but I especially love travelling to new countries, experiencing new cultures and generally seeing as much of the world as possible.

My partner Erin accompanies me everywhere, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Together we set out to see and do as much as possible in each exotic locale we visit! She is my best friend, the love of my life and I wouldn't want to travel anywhere without her!

Anyway, enough about me. Enjoy the blog and I look forward to your comments!

Day Thirty Four 18 March 2010 Location: New York City, New York Hotel: On the Ave Hotel, New York The 18th of March 2010 started like every day before it. We awoke around 8am. Showered, dressed and planned our schedule for the day. However, today was not like every other day. In fact, today would be a day unlike any either of us had ever experienced. Today stood alone as the day I would ask Erin to become my wife. It was a day we would remember forever, and as the sun rose over the city, Erin still didn’t have a clue. Erin and I met while we were both working in the same building located in a small urban city centre on the outskirts of Perth in Western Australia. I had seen her walk past ... read more

Day Thirty Three 17 March 2010 Location: New York City, New York Hotel: On the Ave Hotel, New York The new day dawned and it felt like it had arrived all too soon. We awoke after a brief sleep in and were soon getting ready. Today promised to be the most fun day yet, as it was St Patrick’s Day in New York City. Not only that, but we had another hockey game to attend tonight and finally I would get to see Sidney Crosby lead my Penguins on the ice. I couldn’t wait. We wanted to catch the St Patty’s Day parade which was due to start at 11am down on 5th street. We got ready and Erin wore her newly acquired St Patty’s gear. We made our way downstairs and found the street to ... read more

Day Thirty Two 16 March 2010 Location: New York City, New York Hotel: On the Ave Hotel, New York When Erin and I woke on second morning in New York, we knew that today we had to pick up the pace. Our first day and a half in the Big Apple had been great fun, but we had spent the majority of the time wandering aimlessly and shopping, not that Erin was complaining. We showered, dressed and did our shoelaces extra tight. Today we were going to do some trekking. I pulled out our huge map of Manhattan and quickly started plotting a course. “Travel Paul” was back and it was time to do some serious damage. Today, we would take no prisoners. We decided to start the day with a trip downtown to the south ... read more

Day Thirty One 15 March 2010 Location: New York City, New York Hotel: On the Ave Hotel, New York The sun rose over the New York City skyline and I awoke with a burst of energy. For the first time since Orlando I was absolutely raring to go. We had 6 and a half days in the city and while we were excited to get out and see as much as possible, we didn’t want to burn ourselves out. Erin wanted to go and do some shopping at a department store she had been telling me about for the last three months. I figured that would be a good starting point (mainly as I didn’t want to hear about discount handbags any more). We left the hotel and skipped hailing a cab. Today we would start ... read more

I’m back! Sorry for the hiatus. It’s tough getting back into work mode and planning an engagement party. Lots of days still to come as we enter the final stretch! Day Thirty 14 March 2010 Location: Washington D.C & New York City, New York Hotel: Holiday Inn - Central, Washington DC & On the Ave Hotel, New York Well the 30th day of the trip arrived and we were getting ready to head to New York City. I couldn’t believe that we were nearing our second last destination. We had tickets booked on the 10:20am Amtrak train to New York City. This meant we were both up fairly early to get ready for the train ride and to finish packing our bags. I was happy to be taking a train instead of another plane and was ... read more

Day Twenty Nine 13 March 2010 Location: Washington D.C Hotel: Holiday Inn - Central, Washington DC The final full day in Washington dawned and we were disappointed when we looked out the window of our hotel room. The weather looked terrible. It was cold and wet and unfortunately we had a lot to do today. We had awoken early to make a good start to the day and I was concerned that the weather would only hinder our progress. Our first stop of the day was the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. We found the building without much trouble, but finding the entry was a challenge and after speaking with a few people who were also having the same problem, we finally located the door. We entered and ... read more

Day Twenty Eight 12 March 2010 Location: Washington D.C Hotel: Holiday Inn - Central, Washington DC Hockey day in Washington had arrived and I was pumped! No, that doesn’t quite do it. I was absolutely over the moon excited that in less than 12 hours I’d be watching Ovechkin and the Caps take on the Lightning in one of the best hockey arenas in the country. I won’t bore everyone else with my constant hockey babble, as we still had a full day in Washington to put under our belts before the puck would be ready to drop. We got up early yet again and this time we were focused on making it to the Washington Monument. Unfortunately, upon stepping outside, we were confronted with a cold, wet day. We quickly decided to skip the walk ... read more

Day Twenty Seven 11 March 2010 Location: Washington D.C Hotel: Holiday Inn - Central, Washington DC Day 27 started early. We knew we had a lot to see in Washington and only three days to do so. We were up and out of the hotel by 8:30am. We had planned to get a taxi down to the Washington Monument and get tickets for the first group up at 9am, but for some reason this didn’t happen. When we walked out of the hotel we couldn’t see any taxis and our original plan had been to save our legs and get a taxi down to the Mall. However, with a taxi nowhere to be found, we decided to just start walking and see where we ended up. It was a nice crisp morning in Washington. The air ... read more

Day Twenty Six 10 March 2010 Location: Raleigh & Washington D.C Hotel: Marriott Hotel, Raleigh & Holiday Inn - Central, Washington DC Day 26 started much like the previous day and we were soon packed and back in the car on our way towards the next destination, Washington DC. Today we had no stops to make on our way to Washington and we decided to try and get there in one fell swoop. It’s about 300 miles to Washington from Raleigh, and Celeste was estimating about a 5 hour trip. With our plan ready, we fired up the engines, hit the gas and were on our way. We were soon out on to the interstate and had our eyes on the prize. The miles disappeared as we drew closer and closer to Washington. By late morning, ... read more

Day Twenty Five 9 March 2010 Location: Charleston, Wilmington & Raleigh Hotel: Marriott Hotel, Charleston & Marriott Hotel, Raleigh We awoke early as we had a long day of driving ahead of us and we wanted to see a little more of Charleston before heading up the coast. The night at the Marriott had been enjoyable and comfortable. I often stay at Marriott hotels when I travel for business and I have always been satisfied with the rooms and staff. It was also nice to have a more suitable bathroom and amenities that were not present at the Disney World Resort. Check-out was a breeze and we loaded our bags into the car and were off towards the historic district of Charleston which we had visited the night before. We managed to find parking, this time ... read more
