During this festive time of year, I am going to take a break from my travels in Italy and France to discover Christmas in a whole new light. How do Europeans celebrate Christmas? There must be a myriad of traditions that come alive during Christmastime and I am going to seek them out and share them with you. Living in Florida, I pine for the mountains, a gentle snow fall and the aromas of fresh baked goods and hot chocolate wafting through the crisp air of Christmastime. Now, come along and journey with me through Christmas and to the Epiphany to discover the cities of Europe steeped in Christmas traditions and aglow with brilliant lights during this joyous time of the year. I haven't yet, but someday soon, I plan to take a Christmas tour through ... read more

So today I am officially tired of Christmas markets. I know I sound spoiled but there is only so much walking and stopping a man can take! I would, however, recommend that you attend one should you go to Germany. Once. They have neat trinkets, food that includes potato pancake puffs, and Schocko kuss. The favorite is a spice wine called Gluehwein. Not much to report. Weidesheim is in the middle of the Palantine region and is the most famous region in Germany for wine. One funny thing did happen. I am a fan of chatting up Americans, as I don't see too many civilian americans in Mannheim. I love chatting about football or just keeping it brief and speaking a quick bit of English. I don't get to use it a lot. I said hello, ... read more

Alrighty, I hsvent been on here in a while, and I know its an excuse but I have been busy looking for work every morning, and then evvery afternoon going t german class. I have done three weeks of german class, and it is really difficult, I am doing ok, and now when I hear someone speaking german it doesnt just sound like a mummbling frog going through a blender. I can actually hear each word and can even translate some of the words, unfortunatly unless it is a really basic sentence spoken slowly, I cant quite translate the sentence yet, but, there is still time. Now on the searching for work, I have had a fair bit of trouble due to my minimal german sprache. But finally, after about 50 emails to truck and bus ... read more

I have a job interview! and its going to be an interesting one, because the person that called me for the interview, doesnt speak english, my german, is still a little above non existent, though getting better everyday! So what is the job? well its my lifelong dream! sort of, lol, its to be a truck driver, i have no idea what the goods are, or what sort of truck it is, but the fact that the phone call took 5 minutes of non understanding banter to get me to an interview on monday morning, and the caller didnt hang up, gives me a little bit of hope, especially as part ... read more

Wednesday 17th September I am typing this sat under the lights near the bogs of a campsite on the corner of Germany, Switzerland and Austria at a place called Lindau (or actually Bodensee) on the edge of Lake Constance. Quite a scenic spot - Lake Constance that is, not the bogs... The temperature as ever is about as warm as a greeting when you're late for dinner - what is it with the weather? Have I come in November and not noticed? The camp site owner merrily chuckled, “I hope you have a good sleeping bag, it was 3° at 7 am.” Oh thanks - looks like the great heat exchanger sat on top of my neck will need a hat on in me tent then. Still it had been a good day so I am ... read more

Holiday on Ice 65th Anniversary biggest pin wheel I was fortunate enough to be asked to join in the biggest pinwheel ever this weekend. It was put together for Holiday on Ice’s 65th anniversary and we had 65 skaters join onto a pinwheel for Guiness book or world records to create the biggest pinwheel ever!! So, all of the Energia cast was needed and members from the other shows to accomplish this. Thursday after Energia rehearsals we jumped on a bus for Mainz, Germany to rehearse and then do it live for German television on Sunday afternoon. A five hour bus ride and we finally arrived around one in the morning. On Friday we left for an arena that I later learned we will be going back to in December to perform our show! It ... read more

Aug 27, Wednesday Up at 5:45 a.m., suitcase out at 6:20, bkfst at 6:30, on bus at 7 a.m.. Rest stop at border, 50 cents. Got to Cologne about 10:15 to go to Cathedral. Had a “big hour” (Marieke's term) to get a snack, use restroom, and visit Cathedral. Cathedral is very large, huge stained glass windows; bought two postcards (E1,80). Used RR at MacDonalds (.50) and got small cheeseburger and small soda (E1,00 each) (Sprite - had a little uncomfortable tummy on long ride - one pill from another tourite, and borrowed a wrist band from Cindy). Another lengthy time in bus to get to St.Goar for boat cruise on Rhine. One photo stop along the river at Remagen for bridge towers - of “end of war” fame, before getting to boat. Cruise was very ... read more
