So the unthinkable has happened. The Kaunas Lituanica baseball team, fresh from Lithuania, has made it into the semifinals of the european baseball championships. We beat the Czech team on Thursday, 10-1. This evening will be the semifinals, against Holland. Their team has many players who played in the minor leagues, and a few from the World Baseball Classic. They are very good, everybody says they will win the tournament. It is hard to believe that Lithuania is now one of the top teams in Europe!! I had planned to include some pictures in this entry, but the computer does not have the 'hardware' to do so (and the guy running the cafe gets angry any time you ask him a question). Next entry will have photos, I promise! ... read more

Frankfurt - Prague - 13th June 2006 Talk about security checks! We had so many bag searches leaving Germany it was ridiculous! Especially if you're carrying an excessive amount of carry-on bags! The flight itself only took about an hour. Seems like everything is about an hour from each other in Europe. We arrived in Prague around 8pm. It was pretty quiet when we arrived. Not many people in the airport. We got a transfer to our hotel for 480kc. I think it was only a 20 or so min drive. Our apartment was on Wenceslas Square. Talk about central! Downstairs there were heaps of shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs! We were actually part of the Marks & Spencer building on the 6th floor. It was a studio layout complete with full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, ... read more

With time getting short and the weather finally being sunny and warm we decided to return to Hrensko for a weekend of hiking. We enjoyed this area so much last year and wanted at least one more visit to this beautiful region. The small village of Hrensko is located right beside the Labe River. Across the river is Germany. The border crosses the river about a mile north of Hrensko and beyond that is also Germany. The Czech customs station is only about three hundred yards from the village. Here cars entering the Czech Republic are checked. Ships going up and down the river are also checked. We walked to the customs office, but as we did not have our passports in our pockets it seemed prudent not to cross the border and end up stuck ... read more

learnt from the lesson in Vienna, we bought 24 hours-tickets soon after arrival, so everything went well, and prague is really better than vienna. in augsburg i came across a roommate originated from hunan, he told me that vienna carried out a programme to promote it's tourism 5 years ago, but maybe doing too much, turning vienna into an artificial sight-seeing scene. i think about the situation in hongkong, so understood immediately. sad but true, today we went to czech, we knew that there's a match between czech and ghana, after the match was over, we returned to the city centre, the people wearing czech jerseys were all looked like depressed, i guessed a draw maybe, it's hard to believe that, they lost 0:2, i didn't know it until sund... read more

Prague is … very cool. The Czech people are easy-going and eager to show off their beautiful city. We took a tour of the most important historical and cultural sites and buildings, toured the castle grounds, tried new foods, and failed miserably at speaking Czech, but really enjoyed our brief stay in Prague. People gather in the Old Town Square for events and just to eat and drink at outdoor cafes, but of course during our visit the city was all abuzz with World Cup Fever, and England’s jerseys were everywhere as hundreds of people sat on the ground and watched the game on make-shift big-screens. The American dollar goes quite a bit farther in the Czech Republic than the Euro does in the more western parts of Europe. Air conditioning is virtually non-existent so it ... read more

I never thought I would do this, but here it is. I am entering the world of blogging, ever so reluctantly. I am writing from Prague, where I am currently representing the Kaunas Lituanica baseball team in the European Cupwinners' Cup Baseball competition. Basically, it is one of two European Baseball Championships held every summer. I came here with the Lithuanian team, along with two other Americans, on a bus crammed full with 30 people, a twenty-four hour ride from Kaunas, Lithuania, to Prague, Czech Republic. The story of this Lithuanian team at this tournament is the classic story of David and Goliath. In Lithuania they don't have enough baseballs to have a real practice, they don't even have a field with a fence or a proper baseball diamond, they practice on an old Soviet-area soccer ... read more

Hello. This is officially the most rushed entry ever! Rough travel update: So now we (Cory, Jeff, and my brother) are in Prague after having arrived here this morning in our now infamous manvan. After Gelsenkirchen we made it to Berlin, staying one night at drnojoke.de 's (a guy I met in Turkey) and one in the van, graciously dubbed the manvan. After much congestion, we made it to Prague in the early afternoon. We had a few quick drinks with my Veronika here (a native of the region who is a friend of a friend) and are at the moment watching the England game on a huge TV setup in the old town square. Some quick stories before the second half starts!: After Gelsenkirchen we progressed towards Berlin and slept in the van. We made ... read more

Today I have a date with a man whose kiss is so tender, that he has made himself known all over the world. His kiss is so passionate that none can come close to its beauty- though many have tried. I have donned my only skirt and smoothed my lips with gloss. I am ready for his kiss. I am ready to see the art of Gustav Klimt. It was Griff's suggestion- who would have thought? We had not planned to enter Austria because it is one of the most expensive countries in Europe at the moment. (You should see how much a hostel charges for a bunk bed in a room with nine other people, and a shared bathroom in Vienna!) But we figured out the logistics and they were relatively affordable- arrive in Vienna ... read more

Hey Everyone, So I know its taken me forever to get this out, but this is the first time since Kelly and I have split off from her family (sooo sad) that I have had a chance to get to a computer for more than 10 minutes haha. In a nut shell the trip has been amazing so far. Getting to Milan in the beginning was a bit of a challenge as we missed our last leg of the flight in, buuuut we managed to connect with Kelly's parents before they took off without us. Our first stop was Bellagio Italy, near Lake Como and it was gorgeous, picture perfect little streets and friendly locals. Kelly's mom kept an eye out for George Clooney but apparently we just missed him, as he came in the day ... read more
