June 17 to June 26 The biggest damn pork knee you ever saw, two pieces of capsicum and a silver of carrot, all the food groups you need. Three days I chased one and missed out, bitter disappointment as I had to settle with every other part from a pig. On the advice of Sarah, a girl I traveled with in Israel, I rode from Salzberg to Cesky Krumlov, a perfect Medieval village in the south of the Czech republic that was holding its annual - medieval festival. Aussie Kathryn and I literally got the last two beds in town, like the world cup, my luck continues in cities. While in the mountains, I get strange and scary animals charging me or my tent in dark scary forests. I never what to know what kind of ... read more

PRAGUE We are joined on the train by two british lads that we met at Auschwitz. It is after 10pm & our plan was to get some sleep & be ready n rearing to go upon arrival in Prague at 7am. No chance..... We order our 1st beers - so cheap - they are cold & go down too well. This sucks us in & we order some more. Our carriage guy resembles mad eye moody (eyes all over the place) & he has the job of providing us with drinks. The cold ones are all gone & we start on the hot ones....nice. We arrive in Prague feeling a little dusty. We find our hostel but have to wait outside until 9am until it opens. We check-in but can't go into the room until 2pm, ... read more

Two days since the Contiki, still dehydrated, I woke early as the morning light beamed through the skylight. We were in Prague, staying with Zina and George who had kindly let us stay in the spare loft and were to become our unofficial tour guides. They are currently living in Prague as George is working on a geology project and assures us he´s about to strike oil any day now! Our first day we walked through the back streets and explored the beautiful city with Zina. After a few hours, our feet and hunger suggested we go in search of a quiet spot for lunch, which took us across the King Charles Bridge and down to a riverside spot where we sampled our first Czech beer. After lunch and just around the corner from the apartment ... read more

Day 26, 26th June. Prague. The day was spent buzzing around town looking for stuff again. We met up with Toby and had some drinks, quite a lot actually - so the day passed into oblivion. We went back to the campground before, I wasn’t going to risk having anything else nicked overnight like my sandals last night. Rory went off to stay at his brother’s and I stayed at the campsite with Scott, Toby went off back to his hostel and we arranged to meet up in the morning to go up to the Russian Embassy with Rowan and Klara for translation. Day 27, 27th June. Prague. We all met at the usual place, Andal station, except Toby that is, who got lost on the way. However, he met up with us at the embassy ... read more

Ginko, Nic and Chriso got in at about 02.30. Apparently Chriso was talking Swahili to a rough looking local with scars all over his face. Ginko was a bit worried, but it turned out to be all good. While Beck and I had avoided the absinthe, they had tried it last night. It was good to have had a decent night’s sleep. It was a slow start for everyone else, so I went to the supermarket and got breakfast supplies. Unbelievably the supermarket is literally only 30 metres from the hostel, but I still got lost! My sense of direction is terrible. After breakfast we headed to the Jewish cemetery but there was a big queue so we vowed to come back later. We walked along the river which is a great part of Prague and ... read more

I had an ok sleep, and if Ginko snored I didn’t notice! There was a continental breakfast on offer, but after looking at what was on offer we decided to go to the supermarket. Everything was very cheap, particularly beer, but we managed to show strong will power. After buying our supplies we had breakfast back at the hostel. We decided to take in the sights of Prague on foot. All the shops were very interesting, obviously designed for tourists, but the souvenirs were different to what we normally see, eg. marionettes and babushkas. As there was so many shops, we decided we would shop later, although the girls did tend to linger at times. Our first touristy thing was to go up the clock tower. There was a lift in the middle of this amazing ... read more

NOTE ON PHOTOGRAPHS: Although I try to get photos in on the day of the entry, this is not always possible. So check back through the journal pages for added photos regularly. Image quality may vary too. Day 24, 24th June. Pommelsbruhn - Hirschau - Bor (CZECH REP) - Stribo - Plesniče It was a damp night, everything was wet, but we were on the road for eight. Our first stop was in Sulzbach for bread and cakes. The town was preparing for a carnival, it would have been nice to stay but we had targets to meet. We stopped near Weiden on the route I took last year and I phoned Kathryn - she’s well and happy which also made me happy. Wonder what we’ll be doing together one year from now? Took forever to get here. After the game on Thursday, I took the train back to Ingolstadt and our hotel. I fell asleep and missed my stop and ended up in Munich at 1AM. Next train back to Ingolstadt was at 4AM ((. I finally got back to the hotel at 6 and Quigley was there asleep in the lobby....he arrived too drunk to ask at the desk for a key and slept on a couch. So, after 3 hours sleep - we woke and headed for the train to Prague. Of course, the trains were screwed and we missed a connection. Then the train stopped and they put us on busses over the mountains. The back on another train to Prague. What an ordeal! I thought for sure that they were going to drag us ... read more

I wanted to focus on going to Prague, but it wasn’t so easy being at school. Everything went ok though, and I got out as quick as I could around 15.10. Kez and Beck picked me up from school. I got changed in the car, dropped my shirt off for dry cleaning, and then we caught the 15.46 train as there was no 15.33. We got off at West Ham, caught another train to London Bridge, and then it was a mad scramble to try and get on the train for Gatwick. The train was jam packed, standing room only. We managed to get to the airport with a little bit of time to spare. I couldn’t find a fax machine to fax off my time sheet, settled for a snack at McDonalds, which coincided nicely ... read more
