Two Brothers - Prague
Rory meets his brother Rowan on our arrival in Prague. Day 26, 26th June.
Prague.
The day was spent buzzing around town looking for stuff again. We met up with Toby and had some drinks, quite a lot actually - so the day passed into oblivion. We went back to the campground before, I wasn’t going to risk having anything else nicked overnight like my sandals last night. Rory went off to stay at his brother’s and I stayed at the campsite with Scott, Toby went off back to his hostel and we arranged to meet up in the morning to go up to the Russian Embassy with Rowan and Klara for translation.
Day 27, 27th June.
Prague.
We all met at the usual place, Andal station, except Toby that is, who got lost on the way. However, he met up with us at the embassy on his bike all hot and flustered. There was a big queue outside and we all waited for hours before we were let in. After much negotiation our applications were lodged for KC2400 each (about 45 pounds), for visa extention. Our passports were given back with our old visas still in! Looks as if we have double-entry anyway now,
Bohemian industry.
On the way to Prague we pass a fair bit of industry. great!
We went to the internet launderette, then had some Chinese food and went then for quite a few beers, in fact lots! At the campsite Scott was wasted. I packed up my tent and had another couple of beers with Scott before heading off up to Rowan and Klara’s flat where I could stay on the balcony with my sleeping bag, it would save me 4 pounds a night. I cooked up a pasta meal for them and we drank a bit more before I decided to call it a night and crash out on the balcony with Rory.
Day 28, 28th June.
Prague.
It was a good sleep last night. After breakfast I headed off alone into town, walking the few miles to the centre and posting off my letters on the way there. I visited a lot of side streets and found a few groovey shops that sold dodgy goods like pepper-spray, fireworks and assorted ugly knives! Later on I went to the ‘Electra’ internet café to check my email. Lots from Kathryn, and I could at last send her some mail back. I also updated the block sender to let friends
Road to Prague
Me on the bike - nice weather, empty roads... know where I was. On the way back I called at the supermarket to pick up some goodies. Arrived back at 6pm, Rory appeared at the same time also. Turned out that Klara and Rowan were cooking us a curry meal tonight. Toby and Scott turned up drenched in the only heavy rain we had. We ate, drank some wine, then had an early night as Klara had to get up early.
Day 29, 29th June.
Prague.
Woke up a little bit later this morning and felt quite lazy. I ate breakfast with Rory, he went out with Rowan and I arranged to meet up with him at Wenceslas Statue at 1pm in central Prague. Caught a bus to Andel and then walked the rest of the way to meet up with the guys. We checked out a camera shop then went for lunch at a cheap Chinese. Scott, Toby and I went to an internet café afterwards to check email, two lovely letters from Kathryn, I wrote one back to her. Afterwards, I took tram 4 to near the flat where Rowan was at home. I talked with him about his future plans with Klara
Prague's Astromonical Clock.
Once you've seen the clock, go to a nearby cafe and see the "Astronomical" prices! and as an artist - he goes back to London in September to study one year at art school. I felt tired and lazed about the flat. Later, Rowan and Rory went out for the night and left me with my thoughts.
It’s 9pm now and I’m thinking about the trip, relations with the other guys, what we’ll se and who we’ll meet. Mainly I’m thinking about Kathryn in LA, how close we have become and what the future may hold. She is with me in spirit all the way, I can feel her now and somehow know that we will have a great partnership together. The funny thing while I’m on this trip is that I can’t envisage a situation where I’ll be tempted by another woman, the thing is - I suppose I’m not really looking for that short-term kind of thing this time. I wonder if Kathryn will join me in Singapore? Will she travel with me to NZ? Will I run out of cash? Where will we end up in life? In a cosy little country farm-house in New Zealand together would be nice. So, at the moment I’m wondering also how the trip will
"Smoke on the Water"
Charles Bridge and the Moldau. Don't know why the smoke is there, though? progress? The only concern is that Toby may hold us up and there may be arguments about this, I hope not - he’s a decent guy, and if he could get his stuff together he would get there, even with a bad knee! Once we pick up our Russian visas on Monday there’s no stopping us reaching the Mongolian border!.... Cheerz!
Day 30, 30th June.
Prague.
Rory and Rowan came in drunk at about 3am and woke me up. It was funny cos Rowan was swatting imaginary mozzies. I slept till around 9am then went to the campsite after breakfast. Scott was in town and Toby was recovering from an all-night concert and an E! He’d found a box of magic-mushrooms too!! We had a cuppa be had to go back bed again afterwards. I explored some of the tourist-packed town on my bike, crossed the Charles Bridge and went up to the castle district. There was a nice downhill through a park. It was hot so I went back to the flat early afternoon to eat and relax a bit, no-one was there so I took a bath and had a private-trim cos of the heat
Embassy of McDonalds
A whole street full of embassies has the Czech HQ of McD amongst them! We think this must have been the former East German Embassy? while cycling.
Later on we all met on Charles Bridge at 8pm and went for a pizza and a few beers, Toby had brought his ‘shroons’, so I partook of a few. After the meal and a couple of beers I was beginning to laugh at things. Rory went back home not feeling too well, I went with Scott and Toby to another bar where Toby bought a round of Absinth. It was hysterical as Toby set the table alight, and his hands too! We wandered back towards Andel station, there was a thunder storm as we caught the late-night-tram back to Rowan’s place.
Day 31, 1st July.
Prague.
The folks went to church and there was a misunderstanding as I cooked lunch for all of them including Scott and Toby at 1pm - nobody came back till 7pm, well, that’s the last time I spend my money and time like that again for a long time!!! At 5pm I called Kathryn with her “Magic Number” and spoke for an hour with her. Later on we all went into town to have a pizza and a few beers, returning back for midnight.
