We had another free day in Split after our Bosnian day trip, which we used to check out the incredible old town dominated by Diocletion’s Palace– one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments. Diocletrion was a 3rd century AD Roman Emperor who decided to retire to Split. I can understand why, it’s a beautiful harbour town and combined with the fact that it had sulphur deposits. The palace itself is a huge area taking up several blocks from the harbour. We kicked off the morning by climbing the Bell Tower, which was a very narrow steep staircase, but at the top we were rewarded with excellent 360 degree views of the city and harbour area. From there we went to Marjan Hill, a tough climb in the 30 degree plus weather but worth it once ... read more

The next day was headed to Zadar. We stopped in at Split, a massive shopping district on the beach, very touristy, but a beautiful spot all the same. We really only had a couple of hours there until we moved on to Zadar, but long enough for the boys to stock up on top of the range bb guns that are illegal in Australia but sold in every shape and size over there, the next few nights could get interesting ha ha ha. Zadar is similar to Dubrovnik in that the old town is fortified with walls and it’s got some roman ruins dating back well before the walls were built. Probably the best thing to see was the sea organ. As the waves crash in, specially crafted pipes act like an organ and as the ... read more

we had a full day in Debrovnick today, so after breakfast we headed into town. I went to the war memorial gallerie meusem which was quite interesting with all the information and photos. After spending a couple of hours there had a quick lunch which we had prepared at camp before heading off to walk around the city's wall. It took just under 2hours to walk around the wall, but it had some amaxing views of the city and the sea out beyond. After we had finished walking the wall we had a wee walk around the streets. We then headed back to camp about 5ish, found the beach which was a 10min walk and had pebbles, it was refreshing as was a very hot day. It was a pretty relaxed evening as we got dinner ... read more

Ok, so it’s on to Dubrovnik in Croatia, and I can’t wait! Hitting the old town on the first night for Dave’s birthday, it was definitely a challenging backing it up after last night in Albania but I just had to suck it up and put my party shoes back on. The city is an amazing sight to behold, entirely enclosed in fortress walls standing 15 to 20m high, you actually cross a draw bridge to get in. And that it still functions as a city is really cool. The first club we hit was basically all Contiki unfortunately, but I did get to have a drink called a ‘sex bucket’ :-), so that was kinda cool. The second club, however, was sensational!! Awesome layout, cranking music, dancing cages, and a strange hole that simply went ... read more

Przez następne dwa tygodnie będziesz chodził różowy ... read more

A very early morning flight from London saw us land in Split right on time to catch a bus to the huge harbour and board our Katarina Line boat for our epic sailing adventure of Croatia. We avoided booking the ones that we knew were notoriously full of Aussies (e.g Fanatics, Top Deck), however our sailing group was still at least 70% Australian - but at least having gone for the expensive boat, they were classy Australians. Our sailing ship, Ocean, was a magnificent boat with 36 on board plus crew (our captain Mario was quite funny as was the heavily tattooed chef and cheeky barman). We weren’t exactly sailing though, as there wasn’t much wind, so the twin engines sucked up 100 litres of fuel per hour to make sure we arrived at our destinations ... read more

Heading south from Slovenia, I crossed into the Croatian part of the Istrian peninsula. The bus arrived in the Croatian city of Pula 10 minutes early even though it was 45 minutes late in Slovenia and we had to stop for 15 minutes at the border for passport control, so not quite sure how that happened. Pula is right at the tip of Istria, and as the name suggests, it has a very Italian past. The city has some of the best Roman ruins I've seen, including the impressive Amphitheatre from the 1st century BC (the 6th largest surviving example) as well as several Roman gates and arches dating from the same era. The main square in the city is called the Forum, and is home to the 1st century Roman Temple of Augustus, as well ... read more

It was a nice sleep in this morning!!!! Steve and I ended up cooking breakfast for everyone (eggs and sausages with a bit of help from the cook... you would think it would be the other way round but somebdy wasn't feeling too well!) Today was a free day so after breakfast we did some washing – we handwashed an entire load of washing because we Dutchy and Scottishman refused to pay the equivalent of $15 NZD for 1 load of washing. After our bonding session of washing clothes we Skyped our families (finally managed to have a good connection). By lunchtime we made it to the bus stop to go into Dubrovnik. We looked around the shops and then went and had lunch (Me- Pizza and Steve- pasta). At 2.00pm – the hottest part of ... read more

That is the best nights sleep I have had since being on this tour! We had an air-conditioned room and a blimin' comfortable bed to sleep on! We headed down for breakfast where we had omlettes... YUM!!!!!!!! Today's journey was taking us to Dubrovnik. When we arrived we set up our tents, had tea then jumped on a bus to go on another walking tour... of 'Old Dubrovnik'. It is a really nice place with a lot of charm... and sleezy guys! They are certainly not afraid of trying to chat up any girl who walks past... mostly Australians and Kiwis! After our walking tour which lasted abou 20 minutes we headed to a bar where 2 other Topdeck groups were. We spent a long time there and had a lot of fun. Our tour cook ... read more
