Asia » Brunei October 6th 2011

When I eventually woke up this morning we went for a swim at the local country club where Sarah is a member of. We spend a good hour or 2 swimming around while taking turns looking after Hannah and Micah. We had buns and yummy salad fillings for lunch then we spent the next few hours mucking around home. I attempted to Skype Mum but the connection kept cutting out so that didn't end up happening then we watched Nicole's skydiving dvd and photos. We also spent some time arranging activities for later today and tomorrow. Sarah rung the people for us to arrange a deal because apparently they will try and rip the tourists off. At about 4.30pm we headed down to the river to go on a boat trip to see the Water Village ... read more

Asia » Brunei » Bandar Seri Begawan October 5th 2011

So this morning Steve and Sarah went to the airport to sort out a rental car at the airport. They were gone for a while then returned at about 10am (And yes, I was up by that time... Nicole wasn't) before having to return yet again because the Steve didn't have my credit card to pay the deposit! We had the car sorted and home by about 10.45am. We spent the rest of the morning lazying around 'home' because we had no plans. In Brunei the workers go home for lunch so we met Simon at the local mall to have chicken and rice for lunch. We were definitely feeling the stares at the mall because we were the only white people and we were dressed very differently to others. After lunch Sarah and Simon took ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong October 4th 2011

So Steve and I were both wide awake at 3am (Hong Kong time) because our bodies were telling us it was only 8pm (UK time)! We both managed 3-4 hours sleep before 3am but we were both feeling alright which is good. After going on Facebook, reading, Skyping, reading trashy magazines and lying in bed attempting to sleep 8am finally rolled around and we decided to pack up and go and find some breakfast since according to our bodies we had missed dinner! We just found a little cafe type place in the airport and had some food... I made sure I ate nice and slowly so I could fill in time (hehe jokes... I am naturally a slow eater!) - we had scrambled eggs (that were slightly runny), sausages (which were like small frankfurters), mini ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong October 3rd 2011

So we pretty much lost an entire day flying. The flight was pretty good as I got more sleep than expected. Steve slept from about 12am and got about 4 hours sleep and I went to sleep at about 1am and also got 4 hours sleep followed by an extra hour and a half later on which was good. We were flying on London time so we flew through the night and had breakfast just before we landed, problem was that when we arrived in Hong Kong, after just having breakfast, it was 4.30pm. We spent a while mucking around the airport and trying to find some accommodation (Whoever said Hong Kong was cheap... it's not!!!). We were going to have to pay $450 for 1 night at a hotel which we really were not comfortable ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England October 2nd 2011

This morning we started the day by going to the Castle Gardens – Monique and Mum B both said it was pretty and there was a section dedicated to Alice in Wonderland... well we got there and there was not a single flower in the garden, just a pile of dirt! But that was ok because I was looking forward to seeing the Alice in Wonderland area because I had seen a picture of Mum and Dad sitting on a seat with a statue of Alice sitting in the middle of the bench reading... well when we got to the Alice in Wonderland part of the garden there was a statue of Alice but it was her going through the looking glass... disappointment number 2 – thanks again Monique! LOL After taking some nice photos we ... read more

Up on time today to head into Bath and see the Roman Baths Museum. When we arrived there was a rather big queuu waiting to get in but luckily it moved rather quickly. We got a free Audio Guide with our entry so we were able to hear about the history behind each of the areas and there were also models made up to show what the original baths would have looked like. At the end of the tour our ticket also gave us a free sample of the spring water which I was really looking forward to because I was quite thirsty... we got our drinks, took one sip and put the cup down! It was hot water and really did not taste very plesant! After our tour around the Roman Baths we found some ... read more

This morning I made the most of the Internet and Skyped my family – we had big catch-ups about what has been happening! After discussions about what to do for the day we decided to go our own way again so Nicole went to the Beatles Museum, Steve went to a bike shop which I didn't want to go to so instead went to some girly shops then we all met back a few hours later... Nicole with a few souviners, Steve went back and bought some bike shoes and me... nothing! Still cannot find any shoes that I really really like darn it! We grabbed some lunch from the supermarket because that was easiest then headed out of Liverpool to Knowsley Safari Park. We each had to pay to get in but then we got ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater Manchester » Manchester September 29th 2011

I had mentioned to Steve that before we leave United Kingdom I would like to spend as long as I needed in a Primark store as they have some very cool clothes and in comparison to New Zealand clothes they are incredibly cheap. So we drove to Manchester this morning and we drove to a parking building that just happened to have one of the biggest Primark's attached to it... Apparently I was struggling to contain my enthusiasm. In 1 hour and 55 minutes I left the shop with a bracelet, belt, underwear, skinny jeans and 5 new tops... Hmmm now I need to fit them all into my pack! Oh well... deal with that later! Unfortunately I didn't find any shoes I really liked though! We had some lunch after this then hit the road ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cumbria » Kendal September 28th 2011

Sleep ins, shopping and back to Windermere to try go canoing/kayaking... that pretty much sums up our day in 1 sentence! Nicole and I slept while Steve tried to go for a run! I use the word 'tried' because he got up and got into his running clothes, went to the carpark and stretched before stepping onto the motorway and realising there was no footpath and the grass was too long on both sides of the road! Hehe he returned about 3 minutes after leaving the room! Anyway when we were up we headed into Kendal central, parked the car then went our own ways. Nicole and I went shopping and Steve went and spent 2 hours with 1 coffee and his laptop in McDonalds sorting out our flights and some other stuff. Not a lot ... read more

What dork would like to stand in stinging nettle twice in 1 day??? Pick me, Pick me!!! What dork would like to end up in an ankle deep muddy puddle??? Pick me, Pick me!!! What dork would like to resort to peeing in a forest because she couldn't wait any longer??? Pick me, Pick me!!! Quite an eventful day today I must say! So we were up on timeish and had our cereal breakfast (it took us about 4 days and 20 shops to find just one single junk shop that sold plastic bowls and plastic spoons... apparently Great Britian uses proper crockery when hosting a child's party! Anyway we decided to drive to Lake Windermere to go for a walk today so we drove to the Inforamtion Centre and asked the guy about some walks. ... read more
