Today we had a really late start leaving the dock cos it wasn’t very far to the next island. We started sailing at 10, which was good cos we didn’t get woken up briefly at 6 with the motor of the boat starting! We sailed for an hour or so, had another great lunch, had our daily jump and swim for an hour or so and then headed to the very tiny island of Brac. Brac is known for its stone making and actually has a stone making college that is world famous! But this is like literally all that is here! There was one cafe with wifi which everyone from all boats were at. It took like 15mins to walk around the whole of the town so we literally all just chilled out forthe day ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Makarska August 3rd 2011

Today we woke at the normal time of “whenever the heck we want!” and headed once again upstairs to sun bathe, jumped off the boat and swam, had lunch at 12 – beef casserole and chocolate wafer dessert! Verrrry nice! We arrived in Makarska at about 1.30 and had a bit of a wander with everyone and then split up and El and I headed initially to a cafe for an iced coffee and tea, smashed some skype then headed off for a wander! The busiest island we have been to so far! Just one long beach with like a million people all crammed together on it! But the coolest beach! It had a bouncy castle in the ocean, massages on the beach, jet skis for hire and all water sports, paragliding, bars galore and lots ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Korcula August 2nd 2011

This morning after our daily jump off the boat we sailed towards Korcula, which was the home of Marco Polo. We arrived after lunch and got off at the wharf. Our guide took us for a walk into the city and showed us Marco Polos house which is now mostly ruins, and the cathedral. We had another group dinner at a pizza place where all the tour groups go, then we walked up a turret to watch the sunset. There was a bar at the top of the turret and they pull any drinks you order up the side of the tower to you. It was really windy up there and we were glad we were wearing shorts because a girl had her dress blown all the way up! I bought a ring which is made ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Dubrovnik August 1st 2011

This morning we woke up and had another amazing morning swim. The boat anchored in a small bay close to Dubrovnik and we jumped off and lazed about on our lilos. After our swim we had lunch on the boat and then we arrived in Dubrovnik shortly after. We all caught a bus together into the city and it was the hottest, most cramped bus experience we have had yet. Luckily it was only about 10 minutes! We walked in the gate to the city and had an icecream from this cool place where the waiters could throw the icecream scoop up and catch it in the cone. We spent the next couple of hours exploring Dubrovnik, swimming at East-West Beach (which was a pebbled beach, not sandy) and buying some souvenirs. We visited a bar ... read more

And got a really decent sleep which was good times! We got up in time for a really good brunch on board at 11am! the we got ready for our really busy day of lying in the sun!! So we headed up on top of the boat, El and I claimed a deck chair which was amazing and we literally just lay in the sun and slept and listened to music for an hour or so then jumped in the water off the boat and swam for about 45mins and then headed back ontop of the boat to our posies again! Life is so tough I tell ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Hvar July 30th 2011

After we checked out of our hostel this morning we went down to the harbour to find our boat. We checked in and put our luggage in our little cabin and set sail at 1pm. There were 28 people on our boat, 3 couples and 22 girls! 22 out of the 28 people are Australian so we are totally outnumbered! We set sail towards Hvar, stopping on the way in a little bay to jump off the boat and swim. The water was amazing, its so clear and blue and it sparkles like crystals. Once the captain got the all clear from the dock we were able to leave and sail around to Hvar. Hvar had similar buildings and streets to in Split, but it was much less busy. We climbed up a mountain to a ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split July 29th 2011

This morning we slept in for quite awhile because we had been kept awake by a couple of people in our hostel who were really loud when they got back. But at least there were no snorers! Once we got up we went to a cafe and Rach had a moccachino that was served in a cocktail glass - very cool! We got some lunch and then went for a walk around the waterfront to see if we could find a beach. We walked quite far and couldn't find one, but we came across a cute area with a couple of beachfront cafes. Just as we got there it started to pour with rain, so we settled in with a cider until the rain stopped. When we were walking back we decided we wanted to go ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split July 28th 2011

We had to get up at 2.30am this morning in order to make our 6.40am flight to Croatia from Stanstead Airport. We caught taxis to the Victoria Coach Station and met there to catch the bus at 3.15am to the airport. The bus seemed to take an eternity and by the time we got there we were like walking zombies. The check in line for Easy Jet was huuuuuge and by the time we got checked in and had a bit of breakfast we ended up having to run through the airport to make our flight. Luckily it was a different result to last time we had to run through an airport and we made it onto the plane ok. The plane was quite small and they had a system where you just picked your seat, ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Zadar July 27th 2011

Hello all, apologies for the gap, internet on the island was predictably scarce. however good news I have some pictures for you since the laptop here in zadar is the best so far. transport to the hostel at pasman was suitably chaotic, albeit straightforward; first van, then tram, then bus, then bus, then ferry, then bus, then van, then walking. The ferry being the most enjoyable leg with amazing views of love island, a brilliant heart shaped island, and badly needed ocean breezes. The first obstacle - our accommodation wasn't at pasman but the next town over - mulyana (or something like that). Second was the lack of signs and English speaking townsfolk, eventually we found an American migrant who pointed us to a non-de-script housing block. From then on the island was amazing, the host Anna ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Split July 23rd 2011

Hello again, I have returned from the east... well eastern Europe that is, and I will say it was a very pleasant experience. Crystal clear waters, hot sunshine, good company, beautiful sights... there are many wonderful things do discover around the world and Croatia is no exception. I have spent the last ten days touring Split, a Croatian coastal city on the Adriatic Sea and the islands just off the coast. It has been a dramatically different experience from the rest of my travels thus far but one that will always be remembered. Split is a tourist city and 70% of their income is from the tourism industry. So one can imagine what the energy of a place like that is like. People from all over the world, restaurants, day treks, markets with stands and people ... read more
