Day 1 The early morning start was worth it to see the ferry pulling in to Croatia just after sunrise. Dubrovnik is beautiful!! We hadn't even done anything yet but we loved it!! A quick coffee and breakfast and we walked to our hotel which has a lovely view of the sea! The people in Dubrovnik are so friendly and helpful! We strolled down the very rocky Lapad beach (rocky beach but incredibly blue, clear waters) and down a little promenade, then made our way to the old city! Wow! I mean it.... Wow!! Such a gorgeous place! All old cream coloured buildings with terracotta roofs! The first thing we did was climb and walk the city walls. What a spectacular place! I can't describe it so you will have to look at the pictures! We ... read more

Korcula, Croatia to Civitavecchia, Italy Our tour in Korcula (pronounced Kor-chu-la) was both good and bad. Our tour guide was wonderful: the weather; raining and “cool”. We started with a walk through the old town walls into the ancient part of the city. The town claims to be the home of Marco Polo. What they do know is that there was no family Polo in Venice at the time, but there was a Polo family in Korcula back then. We sought refuge from the rain in both the museum and cathedral where we saw a magnificent Tintarello (sp?) painting above the altar. The painting had recently been restored and the colors were brilliant. Another of his paintings hung on the side of the church and it was very dark and difficult to make out. It is ... read more

GÜN 12 GÜNLERDEN PAZARTESİ: Yine erken uyandım Kahvaltımı yaptım Artık kahvaltı yapmadan yola çıkmıyorum. Böylesi daha iyi oluyor. Nefes kesen manzaralar arasından bizim "Şahbaz" (Minibüs ) akıp geçiyor. Bu Hırvatların daha çok şansı var . Buraya yazıyorum… 10 yıl içinde burada artık araç süremezsiniz… MIO ya kendimi teslim ederek yola çıktım eski GPS ( Nermin' i) check etmek açısından kullanıyorum. Yıkanmak burada bedava imiş.… b... read more

The Dalmatian coast of Croatia is fast gaining a reputation as the new playground for the rich and famous. But the thing is you have to get there first! In my case the journey entailed catching a midnight bus from Zagreb in freezing temperatures, only to pull an all nighter on the aforementioned bus before a weary group of passengers arrived in Dubrovnik the next morning. The odd midnight bus ride is an unavoidable part of life on the road, and just goes to show this travel caper is not all supermodels and speedboats! Let's rewind just a fraction, dear reader, to bring you up to speed on the journal. The Balkans adventure left off in Ljubljana, from where I caught a morning train to the Croatian capital of Zagreb. It was a scenic and enjoyable ... read more

Croatia ( split, hvar, split) I arrived early in the morning with the boys in split , I got my first stamp in my fresh passport. The guys were picked up by two other guys from Australia (perth) and I spontaneously joined them to their hostel to have time to sort things and plan things ahead especially how to travel on and also where. So we were a group of 7 in the hostel, but there were also three girls from finland and additional two people from Sydney. But Leo, Pete, jones and I stayed at another hostel which was still the same hostel group! So they had a green hostel and a blue hostel at croPalace hostel. They have really nice interior, clean bathrooms, a big tv with more than 2000 movies in it, many ... read more

Saturday, October 22 We had to leave House Tereza early because we had to drop off the car rental in Dubrovnik by 10:30 am. It was great having the GPS system to find both the apartment to drop off the luggage, and then the Imperial Hilton Hotel to drop off the car. After I dropped off the car, I walked back through the old town of Dubrovnik to the apartment--about a kilometre. Our place is up the hill from the entrance to the old town--about a 5 minute walk. We met our host and started to unload the car. We were carrying luggage up the stairs, turned a corner, then up more stairs, more corners, and more stairs! Finally we got the apartment after nearly 70 stairs! We then turned around to go back for the ... read more

Monday, October 17 We had a leisurely morning in our beautiful suite in Podstrana. As we now had three "open" days with nothing planned, we decided to drive to Ploce and take the ferry to the Peljesac Peninsula. We had a nice drive down the coast along the Makarska Riviera. Beautiful coastline! It took a while to find the ferry in Ploce. We had an hour-long ride across the Korculanski Channel to Trpanj, then drove about 17 km to the coastal town of Orebic, and parked near the ferry dock. We had planned to visit the tourist office to arrange our room, but it was closed in the afternoon. So we found an internet cafe and tried to book a room, but had no time really to wait for email replies. The cafe owner gave us ... read more

Thursday, October 13 We left Zadar at 8:00 am and motored for 30 minutes to the town of Preko on the island of Ugljan. From there we biked south, across a large bridge to the island of Pasman. We continued our undulating ride south along the coast to the town of Tkon where we had to load the bikes in a hurry as the ferry was due and we were using its slip. We left the dock heading south to an unknown (by us and the crew) town because the weather was changing and the proposed destination might be too windy to stay there. Eventually, we cruised for 3-1/2 hours back to Primosten where we spent the night. We wandered the town, this time going along the seawall out around the north part of town. There ... read more

Day 1 - Saturday We awoke Saturday morning to a much quieter town after the previous night's thunder storm. The weather was cooler, but sunny, clear and very pleasant. We had arranged for our host to drive us to Trogir where we were to embark on our week-long bicycle cruise of the Dalmatia coast National Parks with islandhopping.com. It was a struggle to load our 4 large, 3 medium and three small pieces of luggage into his car. When we arrived in Trogir Old Town (anther Unesco heritage site), we found the Magellan, checked in, then sat in a cafe to have some coffee. Afterwards, Jill and Maureen went for a walk while Fred and I sat for a time watching the goings on up and down the wharf. We boarded at 12:30 and got settled ... read more

Dubrovnikin lentokenttä sijaitsee laaksossa pienen vuorijonon takana rannan suuntaisesti. Jo lähestyttäessä kenttää kävi selväksi, että lento tulisi päättymä... read more
