Katie and I met Griselda at 1pm to walk to the Reserve. It is 3 hours along the beach and up a STEEP hill. We had to wait for low tide, walked 1.5 along a beautiful deserted beach, then up the Rio Coco for 1.5. It is quite steep and a wise one would take up the offer to ride a horse up the hill!... read more

Nantore! This is hello in Ngabe. I spent 8 days hiking and talking for 8 hours straight in the Conte Burica Reserva in Punta Burica Costa Rica. This is a pennisula that is divided in half, part in Panama and part in Costa Rica. To get there you must wait for low tide, walk 1.5 on the beach, then an 1.5 straight up a mountain. It was lots of fun with my backpack! I was helping translate for a girl named Katie who is trying to organize a mono arana conservation project in the park. Many people seemed interested and I learned a lot about Ngabe life in this area. Pictures and more will come latter, I think the Bocas water may be getting to my stomach finally. ... read more

We are in Jaco on the Pacific coast. it si hot here. We took the day off from the tour. We needed a day not in the bus. The bus is very nice but yeasterday was a long travel day on windy mountain roads. It is 90+ here. I took some beautiful pictures of the sunset last night and will get more tonght. Myself and Mansfeld provided chaperoning for 4 of our twenty year old who wanted to go out on the town last night. Due to all of the parents theirs and others being concerened about their safety. Probrobly a very valid concern for 3 young women and one guy. I'll post more photos when we get home. Not that I don't want to share with everyone, however our time in paradise is limited and ... read more

Uiteindelijk ´s avonds aangekomen in Manuel Antonio. Kamer met zeezicht... moet je altijd maar afwachten als je een kamer huurt als het al donker is. Maar we worden nie... read more

Hello everyone. We are getting lazy with the blog, along with everything else. We are adapting to the tico lifestyle, slow and relaxed. Well, after Dominical we left for Orosi. We got to see everyone again and played some futball and taught the people of Orosi Yaniev. It was nice to relax in the colder climate of the mountains. On Thursday in Orosi we went to Magaly, the hostel cleaner's house for coffee and pancakes. We colored with her two cute little daughters and watched a Bob Marley concert. That was nice. Unfortunately we both got sick while in Orosi right before we left. We got to Montezuma on the 29th and got checked into a really nice hotel right on the beach. You can wake up, get a coffee, and sit right outside your room ... read more

This is my second time trying to write this journal, so if you get it twice I apologize. We arrived in Jaco Beach mid morning. We drove here at a snails pace as the roads from the central valled wind around the mountain with steep hair pin turns. We pray we have good breaks. Spent the day on the beach and went into town to shop. Its very touristy and quite expensive. Lot of americans. Its a surfers town. Had a great dinner that evening recommended by a local. Bought some nice jewellery and pottery. The hotel is worn and not too nice. Good thing we are only here for one night. We are off to the other side - pacific side of the mountains tomorrow called Monteverde Cloud Forest.... read more

What a drive to this place. You cannot travel by car up this mountain. You need a 4 x 4 or a truck. The roads are a mess as the local quakers will not allow them to be upgraded. They want to preserve their natural state. We bounced up and down all the way up. This is a very rustic town, like the old west. Tourists do get up there but its not easy. We stayed in a nice lodge with another nice view. There is mist all around us up in these clouds. Their land is very fertile here. The temperature is comfortable. We saddled the morning of the 30th. A private ride with a Costa Rican family. Dad, 12 yr old boy, who spoke fluent spanish, and his 4 yr old brother. We did ... read more

Happy Holidays! Greetings from the sun, the sand and the surf! We are having a very different holiday experience than the one we are both used to back at home! So we finally met up with our good buddy Erik in a little surf town on the southern tip of the Nicoya Pennisula called Mal Pais/Santa Theresa (basically a gravel strip with shops all along it spread between two municipalities). We have been living it up as surf bums for almost the last three weeks. Life is pretty simple down here; eat, sleep and surf, which has caused the two of us absolutely no problems getting used to. We have met a bunch of excellent people while we have been here (Dave, Matt, Pedro, Laura, Shawna, CJ, Sophie, Gord, Andrew) and have enjoyed hanging out with ... read more

Hi everyone There is not much to tell, except that I am still having a blast back in Santa Teresa and enjoying spending more time here with friends. Im currently living and working at the Funky Monkey Lodge. The house we had paid for happened to be moved in by a bunch of other people while I was in Ecuador and my friend was in Mexico. The landlord seemed to think he could get away with the two sets of rent. Hah. We let it go anyway because we got offered jobs at Funky Monkey straight away and are able to live there for free. There is a wonderful atmosphere there. I work with 3 other girls and we share reception jobs. Basically all I do is hang out with the guests! We join them every ... read more
