Scuba School

Hello everyone. We are back in Honduras and at the bay islands. We just completed our open water scuba training on the island of Utila. Now we are Certified Open Water scuba divers. We have already gone on four dives down to 60 ft. and we have two free ones on Thursday. We are hoping to see a Whale Shark. Today on our dive we saw all types of tropical fish, an Eagle ray, and a Hawksbill turtle. It’s really fun to swim with the fishies and be neutrally buoyant. So the first two weeks we were in class and now the last leg of our journey we have spent in class as well. This is much more rewarding; less practical, but fun. We have a bus ticket from Honduras to San Jose on the third ... read more

Hi there everyone, This is a very short entry since just like the rest of Belize, the internet is really expensive. So, we are here in Placencia and it is a really beautiful place. Everyone in Belize speaks English and they are the friendliest people we have ever met. Everyone says hi when you walk down the street (which is said to be the narrowest street in the world) and they have really great accents. The sand here looks like unrefined sugar and the water is a beautiful turquoise. We feel like we are on vacation from the rest of our trip. Unfortunately we can't post any pictures because it takes up to much time. We just wanted you all to know that we are here and love it! We will post pictures when we get ... read more

Copan Ruins

Published: January 18th 2007Central America Caribbean » Honduras » Western » Copán Ruinas

Hello everyone, We made it to Honduras just fine and we are currently at the Copan Ruins. The town that we are staying in is really cool. All of the roads are cobblestone and there are a lot of cute cafes and shops. The town is surrounded by coffee and tobacco plantations so there is a bunch of high quality coffee and cigars in town. Today we went to see the Copan Mayan Ruins and they were really amazing. The ruins that we saw today date back to between 600 to 700 A.D. They are stacked on top of even older ruins that are now underground. There were many statues and pyramid type ruins with long stairways running up. We walked all around the complex and took way to many pictures. Tomorrow we are crossing the ... read more

So we forced ourselves to leave San Juan Del Sur. It wasn’t a bad idea since we are running out of time, but we do wish we could have spent more time here. After we left we headed off to Ometepe, the island formed by two volcanoes in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. One is called Maderas and the other, the larger of the two, is Concepcion. The boat ride over was interesting. Lucas forced Lindsay onto the most rickety rocky boat either of us has ever seen. She thought she was going to get sea sick, but luckily she didn’t feel sick at all. We spent the first night in a town called Moyogalpa, which is right underneath the still active volcano, Concepcion. We checked into a hotel that had a pet deer that would ... read more

Hello Everyone, We are in San Juan del Sur right now which is a small beach town on the pacific coast of Nicaragua. We are having a great time and were supposed to leave today but decided to stay because we can´t bring ourselves to leave. Hopefully we will be able to move on tomorrow because we are running out of time and want to see as much as we can. Lucas and our friend Scott have been surfing everyday on a local beach called Maderas while Lindsay sits on the beach and counts the grains of sand. The beach is extremely beautiful and it is very isolated and hard to get to. We have to ride for about 45mins in a truck bed that is jam packed with other people. Every now and then the ... read more

So we are here in Nicagua and the bus system is quite different then anything we have experienced before. We were standing at the bus STOP waiting for the bus and when it pulled up to us it definitely did not stop. The bus only slowed down and we had to literally run and jump on it while throwing our bags to someone on top of the bus to catch. Lucas barely made it on to the bus before it went full speed. We thought maybe that it was just that one bus stop because the bus was running late or something. But, that was definitly not the case. Every bus stop we went to the bus would only slow down for us to jump onto. Even the old ladies had to run and jump on ... read more

Hello everyone. We are getting lazy with the blog, along with everything else. We are adapting to the tico lifestyle, slow and relaxed. Well, after Dominical we left for Orosi. We got to see everyone again and played some futball and taught the people of Orosi Yaniev. It was nice to relax in the colder climate of the mountains. On Thursday in Orosi we went to Magaly, the hostel cleaner's house for coffee and pancakes. We colored with her two cute little daughters and watched a Bob Marley concert. That was nice. Unfortunately we both got sick while in Orosi right before we left. We got to Montezuma on the 29th and got checked into a really nice hotel right on the beach. You can wake up, get a coffee, and sit right outside your room ... read more

Feliz Navidad!

Published: December 25th 2006Central America Caribbean

Merry Christmas Everyone! We are in Dominical right now and are having a great time. Yesterday Lucas and Ronen (one of our friends) went surfing while Lindsay layed on the beach and drank a coconut (We have a very hard life right now). Last night for Christmas dinner we went out for Thai food with 10 other people and then we all went to a carnival. It was probably the smallest carnival we had ever seen. After the carnival we all went down to the beach and made a bon fire. Lucas accidentally stepped on some wood from a previous fire and got a horrible burn on the bottom of his feet. Lindsay had to walk back to the fair at about 1:00 AM to try and find some ice for the pain since there were ... read more

Hi everyone, We have not updated the blog in a while because we were visting a place that didn't have the internet. To give you all a quick update, we had to leave Boquete early because Lucas got horrible alergies from something that was in the air there. The minute he walked outside he would start sneezing like crazy and his nose wouldn't stop running. So we decided that we needed to leave and headed back into Costa Rica. We spent the night in a really cute town just outside of the boarder called San Vito. The next day we headed to a town called Neily and spent one night there because we were supposed to take a bus early the next morning to the coast. On the way to Neily we saw our lives flash ... read more
