So, we were pretty excited to go to MonteVerde and check out the cloud forest, get a little rain, yada yada. Well, I think this was the dryest place so far. They are supposed to have 2 seasons....wet and more wet. We didn´t see a drop of rain. Nor did we see a forest in the clouds. OK, first the drive there. It is advertised as a Jeep Boat Jeep tour to get from LaFortuna to MonteVerde. Sounds pretty fun? Well, there was no Jeep to be found. It was more like Van Boat Van. And the roads! Wow! We were driving on the side of a cliff for 2 hours. It was the craziest road that I have been on so far. The locals keep the roads in rough conditions to try to keep people ... read more

Hello Everybody, Well guys like I always said you can't put time on good time. And Costa Rica has come to an end. My trip was suppose to continue on for another two weeks but I got a wicked nasty virus in Dominical while out on the surf. I had an ear infection in the early part of december as well as a cough that I think never went away. I remember the brown foam floating around me while out in some good surf and decided that it wasn't worth wasting good surf for a little polution so continued to surfing. Later that night my temperature shot up to roughly 38.5 and unwards to 39.5 after taking a few whites i had brought along the temperature continued to rise to 41.5 a rough 101. F. NOw ... read more

Well I guess it is my turn at this bloggy thing. Let me start with, wow what a country. With the warm climate, rainforests, beaches, jungles, abundant wildlife, relaxed Tico culture and ease of travelling it would be difficult not to enjoy your time here. With a country that is nearly 25% protected, no military and a booming eco-tourism industry it should be an example to nations around the world. As you have heard from Ang things having going well with loads of sights so far and plenty of chillin as well. Started with some beach time on the Caribbean coast and now into the central plains and mountains. It is nice to travel with no set times just taking as we wish and getting comfortable with the towns we are in. Angela has settled in ... read more

Hello All - we've fallen behind in blog entries again. We currently have 4 to upload so we're not going to do anything interesting for the next few days. Here are some miscellaneous photos we took that range from Feb 22 - Mar 3. Pretty much all from school or a hotel we crashed for lunch. Hasta luego!... read more

So we left nicuragua and ometepe island and headed for costa rica at 5:30 in the morning. We took a ferry to get back to the mainland, and i should call it a chicken ferry, we were sitting inside the boat and we were getting loaded up with animals and all the pineapples you would ever want to eat. The boat looked like it was going to sink at any minute and i truly thought that was going to happen midway through our ride because there was water filling the bottom of the boat! but no one seemed alarmed, its just a regular thing in these parts. When we arrived on the mainland we didnt even dock, the boat pullled up alongside another boat and through a plank down and we had to skimmy across it! ... read more

Punta Leona Hotel & the city of Jacó Day 5: After a relaxing trip at Aguila de Osa, we were ready to see some of the crazier side of Costa Rica. We had heard that Jaco was the party town as well as a really fun surf town. So we packed up our things, said our goodbyes to the owners and other guests, and took the boat and bus to the Palmar Sur airport again. This time, however, we had previously decided not to fly to our next destination, so we had a reserved air conditioned shuttle bus waiting for us from Easy Ride Shuttle Service. Alburo was waiting at the airport with a clean bus and a friendly attitude. So we begun our drive, which from asking friends, taxi drivers, and just about everyone else, ... read more

After Volcan Arenal we had another long bus journey of 9 hours to get to Manuel Antonio National Park, on the Pacific coast. We had heard some great things about this place and wanted to be some where nice for Valentines and also our 10th Aniversary. We couldn´t of picked a better place, it was gorgeous. Its 3 beaches with rainforest on one side and bright blue Ocean on the other, we would be walking through the forest and gradually see glimpses of the sea and eventually the white sandy beaches, just beautiful and the nicest secluded beaches of our travels. Because it’s in a National park the beaches are spotless as there are not as many tourists that come here because they have to pay to enter. We spent the day walking through the forest ... read more

Peninsula de Osa Information on Osa Peninsula Day 2: (continued) As we headed down the Sierpe River, we came out into Drake Bay. We headed over to the area with multiple resorts, a small town called Bahia Drake, or just Drake by the Ticos (locals). As our boat headed towards land, we noticed many small grass huts and buildings up on the hill. There are very few other resorts here, as it wasn't the easiest place to gain access. Our resort, Aguila de Osa Inn, or Bear Eagle, was an all inclusive resort with a bar, ping pong table, hammocks, delicious meals and appetizers, and had 2 included excursion activities. Our arrival was greeted with tropical fruits and ice blended drinks. We were given the layout of the resort and some information on our activities. A ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Costa Rica » Puntarenas » Quepos February 11th 2007

We're playing catchup with photos here. We got back from the Arenal trip around 4 and shortly after our Tico family invited us out the Quepos Festival. There was some live music, rides (bumper cars was the best) junk food, and bull riding. I'll let the captions and the pictures tell most of the story. The next day we had a 3 hour surf lesson and local surf spot that took us through some pretty interesting neighborhoods to get too. The waves were bigger than in Manuel Antonio beach and there was no one else but Nikki, me and the three locals that came with us. Valentine's day was Juan's mother's 69th birthday and he surprized her with a party and mariachi singers. Juan also took Nikki for a spin on the dance floor. Friday night ... read more

After Samara we headed to Monte Verde for the opposite of our recent beach life. This town was in the hlls about 1500m high. It was a nice and cool breezy place which I prefer to the heat of a beach and it was nice to walk around without dripping in sweat for a change! We have come here to do more hiking around the National Park and also because it a good place to see Resplendent Quetzal bird which we have been trying to see since Guatemala, which is their national symbol. They have bright red, green and white feathers and are an important Mayan symbol. It is said that the red chested feathers appeared on the bird after a Spanish conquestador killed an important Mayan leader and the bird flew down and rested his ... read more
