I know, I know I’ve been slack with the updates, no excuse, just days seem to be flying past, Mia now has THREE jobs, working in a local Tavern, Surf Shop and Coles Supermarkets, GOOD on her, she has tried really hard to do this, and I am very proud. She also moves into her own apartment right in the heart of Airlie Beach on Monday, full equipped like a hotel studio room, with a private balcony overlooking the marina and the Islands .. 2 swimming pools, spa, bar and restaurant how cool is that !! On my front, well spent most of my time ferrying Mia round to job interviews and helping with all the paperwork, done a bit more for Jas & Jo with the business accountancy side, and got back into reading ... read more

Wosh .. another week has disappeared ... It seems sometimes that I am busier now than when I ran a business .. Most of the week has been taken up, producing resume’s for Mia and delivering them to many if not all tourism outlets and shops in the area, to try and get her a start. Jas & Jo have done a great job networking with the people they know to help out, with a positive lead coming from John at FantaSea Cruises, who is confident that Mia will get a few hours on the ferries and cruise boats, which she is very excited about. Compared to the battering Perth has experienced over the past few days, we are enjoying sunny skies and temps around the mid 20’s, with chilly mornings. Back into a more fitness ... read more

7am start to the morning, which wasn’t good for Mia as she was still on WA time (5am) to wander round the Airlie Beach Markets, with lots of hand made jewelry and beaut local produce. Then a trip up north of about 65kms to Bowen, via Proserpine. There is a very cool shop in Proser, called Colours Me Crazy, which is packed to the rafts with LOUD clothing and way out jewelry, lots of candles etc. Mia was in her element. Took the usual tourist photo’s at the Big Mango on route to Bowen .... during my travels I have seen the Big Pineapple, Big Lobster, Big Prawn, Big Sheep .. it must be an Australian thing .. mind you everything is BIG here !! Bowen ( GPS S 20.00.45 E 148.14.44) seemed deserted for a ... read more

Short note today ... My Darling Princess arrived in Queensland today .... we had a chill out day down in Airlie, did a bit shopping ... Boy it is good to have her here, and Jas & Jo and made her feel very special with the welcome and Jo has sorted a very Girlie room for her in the house .... Thanks Guys you really do pull out all the stops to make a bloke and his daughter feel at home... read more

Spent the last couple of days just chillin around the town and getting a feel for the place, which I have to admit gets more attractive each time I wander round. Another dash ( 145kms) back to Mackay Airport to delivery my mate back to the plane bound for Perth. The comment they made about Hammo Island was Perfect one day ... F**king Awesome the next, but I guess The Whitsundays has that affect on people ... and Once again I will head back to the airport on Monday ( 6am start) to collect my princess daughter who is joining me on a working journey .. can’t wait. The Prosapine Country show is one this weekend, so might cruise the 20 odd kms back inland to shot a couple of photo’s. The start of this trip ... read more

300 kms round trip to Mackay to pick up a mate from the airport who has come over from WA to stay on Hamilton Island for a few days ... Had thought of staying over there too, but at $768 for a three night room, I reckon that Airlie is the place to be.. Mackay is a real “mining” town, servicing the local coal industry, along with a modern shipyard, although still has a lot to offer the tourist. Should be well used to the trip as I return to the airport on Friday and back again to collect Mia on Monday. I am so excited about Mia arriving, and it looks like there will be plenty of work here for her. The more time I am spending in the Whitsundays’ the more I have the ... read more

Bang !! I am into Airlie Beach, brain storming with Jas and Jo on some of tweaks that can be done with The Banjo’s Bar & Bistro, the business they took over a few days ago Once again time seems to fly by, as I have already been in The Whitsundays for 3 days ... and can see an extended stay here on the cards. The whole buzz of this place and the energy around the rainforest backdrop is hard to describe in print .. over the next couple of days I will update using the Flip Video so hopefully you can get more of a feel for this magical place .. The sun is on my back, although not looking out over the ocean, I feel at home ......... read more

The big push to the Whitsunday Islands today, another chilly start to the day with minus 1 degrees, but staying dry. The 780km drive was long and hard on the body, especially when following my trusted Tom Tom, to take the shortest route via the Clermont Connection Road, outback Queensland .. first 25kms was OK if only a single track bitumen road .. then 145 kms of gravel which ranged from reasonable ( able to cruise at 80kms per hour) to awful, where at times I was down to 15kms per hour .. I was concerned that the trailer would be bounced to pieces, and also the brake lines have been run under the axle so were very exposed when traveling in the ruts ... but my guides helped me through once again, and both The ... read more

Firstly I would like to share with you my experience of outback entertainment that I was exposed to last night ... It is a long standing tradition at Nardoo Station to have a sing song round the very large camp fire ... it is something that you can’t get out of, I promise you ! Now first the pleasant experience, Jeff the brother of the station owners is a beaut singer / songwriter of outback yarns made into song ... one particular song about his late Father certainly got the tear ducts going ... Then the unpleasant experience ... A couple from my home state of WA ( namely Esperance) arrived with large sign writing on their 4WD .. “Country Singing Duet” ... I feel that they must have stolen someone else’s vehicle !! To say ... read more

Awoke this morning to a light covering of frost on the tent .... and the remains of a small snow fall, needless to say it was bloody freezing!! First challenge get a hot cup of tea and try and stay warm, although I wasn’t cold in the night thanks to the beaut swag from Kath & Derek !! Knocking down camp was fun .. not ... Even though I don’t feel the cold ( still wearing the now infamous shorts) my hands don’t function that well when cold, so folding the tent and especially zipping the tarp back on the trailer was a tad annoying ... however still managed to hit the road by 7am ( thats 5am WA time by the way !!) Clear skies at last, made the journey today through the outback very ... read more
