Ah the bliss of waking up this morning dry !! As much as I feel so comfortable out in the bush, the past few days of rain have taken their toll on my body and MIND !! So had a hearty breakfast in the motel room, a gallon of coffee, and hit road, later than usual at 8am . Another border crossing today into New South Wales, and another 30 mins forward on the clocks ... now running 2 hours ahead of WA, so maybe this mornings’ leisurely start wasn’t quite so late !!! First major town on route was Broken Hill, a real mining town, and for those from WA very similar to Kalgoorlie. Lots of pubs, if fact one on every corner .. thats 4 on each intersection !! Almost as soon as I ... read more

Today was the first major challenge of this journey .. Last night I hung on hour by hour waiting for the tent to be launched into orbit. Knocking down camp in heavy rain at 7am wasn’t the most pleasant task I have undertaken, not to say the tent is no getting that heavy that the gas struts can’t keep the lid open. Took on fuel early this morning at a remote roadhouse, and felt I had arrived at a scene from Dr Who ... the guy behind the counter obviously doesn’t get out much !! Driving rain and narrow roads made the 550 plus kms covered today to arrive in Port Augusta a challenge, but that was nothing compared to the sting in the tail to finish today. I saw a storm brewing after leaving Port ... read more

Another long day of straight roads and pouring rain, man I need to cover these kms !! Made a total of 765 kms today, which considering the weather is an awesome achievement. Knocked down camp this morning surrounded by a beaut Nulabor sunrise, although the clouds rapidly set in for another day of heavy rain. It seemed strange some how passing back through landmarks the other way round from the last trip, although the fuel prices haven’t changed much. First stop was Eulca on the SA/WA border, and for the next 100kms noticed the difference in the condition and width of the roads in SA ... much narrower and less maintained, which is a bit scary when 30-40 metre Road Trains are passing in the opposite direction at a 100kms per hour, and taking no prisoners ... read more

While I write this it has just started hailing !!, I reckon I must have caught a piece of string attached to the storm clouds in Lake Clifton and I am dragging it across the South Coast. Having a mud slide go through the camper last night at 2am was interesting to say the least, my first thought was that the trailer would be pulled over, but the Tardis held fast, only ended up with about a foot of mud inside the tent. As it was raining when I knocked down camp this morning and still raining now I am suffering the remains of the sticky mud inside the tent till it dries out a tad. From Ravensthorpe I headed south via Esperance, the trekked north to Norseman, nearly running out of fuel 300kms out of ... read more

Pressure is on a bit now .. I have another special mate flying out to see me in the Whitsunday Islands, only this time the deadline has been moved to the 13th June !! now have to cover 5000kms in just nine days, so there will be some long drives over the next week and a bit. Although it will be great to get to see Jas and Jo again, so the sooner I get there the better .. bring it on !! A bit of a back track this morning ( bloody hate that) but the quickest route to Esperance is via Bunbury. A journey of over 750 kms today took me through the mining areas of Collie, and out on to the vast paddocks of the lower wheat belt of the South West of ... read more

I know before you all complain, this time round I am going to be adding video ( via a very cool “flip” video camera .. Thanks Gazza .. thats my Bro !!) as well as photo’s, to try and give you a bit more of a feel for how it is out in Terra Australis. If too many have problems downloading the blog let me know and will reduce the video content and maybe post that on uTube ... it’s your call. As I mention in the clip it was a very emotional goodbye to my son and best mate Grant. Over the past few months we have grown closer and closer together, but I have resolved to fly him all over this great paddock to hang out even if only for weekends once a month. ... read more
