Hello Bolivia
Hello Bolivia
Looking a bit rough, squinting at the sun after an over night bus journey.....no sleep yet again!
Hallelujah! - At last the South America I thought that I would be seeing. Everywhere so far has been just a bit too easy and not what I was expecting at all. After my night bus to the border I arrived in La Quiaca at 7.30 am. The border crossing was relatively smooth and the journey from Villazon to Tupiza began. The bus was a local bus and was screaming Spanish music from the oldest, static full speakers that I have ever heard. [View Full Entry]

Salta

South America » Argentina » Salta
Another Pink House
Another Pink House
People in Argentina have a thing about pink. Apparently it is to do with the days of war when a winning side would use Ox blood to stain the outside of their buildings.
Deciding to leave Buenos Aires was easy enough the hard part was deciding where to go. In the end after much deliberation I decided to head straight for Bolivia but thought it would be good to break the journey up and stay in Salta for the night. So before I begin to tell you about Salta I feel the need to tell you about my first and only bus journey up until now in Argentina. On my way to BA the bus journey was nearly better than any flight that I’ve been on (Club Class to New York still wins hands [View Full Entry]

So am in Buenos Aires Argentina at the mo. BA what a place, you guys would love it I can guarantee that. The only way to describe it is Barcelona mixed with New York but at a fraction of the price. It is extremely cosmopolitan and feels a lot like Barcelona; however this place really doesn’t sleep and would compete with NY for its Night life. There is great food, wine, shopping, clubs, live music (jazz, string orchestra’s playing reggae etc), steaks the size of your plate with a free glass of wine included (good wine not vinegar) but all [View Full Entry]

Creamfield Buenos Aires
Creamfield Buenos Aires
Before it got messy
Let me tell you about Cream fields Buenos Aires. It is the second festival that I have come to since being in South America; the first was the TIM festival in Rio. I’m not sure how many people were there but there were acts like the Beastie Boys and other local DJ´s, however it was rather tame in comparison to Creamfields. You all know that I love my festivals back home and must say that with over 90 DJ’s and over 60,000 people this competes with any other dance festival I’ve been to. The story begins: Back home when you go [View Full Entry]

Foz Du Iguazu
Foz Du Iguazu
Me at the Brazilian side
O.k. so before I begin to tell you about Iguaçu falls I have something to admit. Before I arrived in South America I had never even heard of Iguaçu falls but am really ashamed as they are the biggest waterfall in the World. In fact the comment in a lot of the guide books is they make Niagra look like a tipple. The falls cross over 3 countries into Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay and actually compose of over 250 separate falls. The surrounding area is subtropical forest which is packed with exotic birds and wildlife. I must say they are pretty [View Full Entry]

Approximately 15 hours into the journey
Finally left Illa Grande after a few days and spent 29 hours traveling to this place called Florianopolis, when we arrived it was raining........Not the same as English rain though. We actually went on the day that we did to get down there to watch the Billabong world surf competition but when we got there found out that it was further south. So on our second day we caught a 3 hour round bus trip just to get there and find out that it had already finished for the day, typical. Then to top it off on my last day in [View Full Entry]

Illa Grande
Illa Grande
A view of Illa Grande
Finally left Rio after party party party and went to this little island Illa Grande for a few days. On arriving not only was it raining but all the electricity had cut out!! It was cool just got wasted but couldn’t have a hot shower. Illa Grande is 183 km squared with lots of little treks around the island, however in the rain this isn’t the most appealing. On our second full day we were going to do a 3 hour trek to the beach at the other side of the island but due to a nasty hangover decided to [View Full Entry]

Boat Party 1
Boat Party 1
Our driver getting drunk on Johnnie Walkers and Red Bull while driving us t othe boat - How different things are in SA
Not much to say other than a great boat party organised by the hostel. Got very drunk on free Capirinhi´s very early and a great way to finish my last night/day in Copacabana. You can see some of the pictures below.........the journey was death defying as our driver was drinking Johnnie Walkers and Red bull on the way while driving, as well as busily taking pictures on his mobile of all the girls breasts in his rear view mirror. I later find out that he is suicidal......now I know why he wasn’t bothered whether we got there in one piece or [View Full Entry]

Copocabana
Copocabana
A typical view from Copocabana!
So other than what you have already seen I spent most of the rest of my time partying or sunbathing on Copacabana. Copacabana is one of the most famous beaches in the world, it is over 4 km in length and I promise you can keep you entertained all day everyday. What ever your size the Brazilian Bikini is famous for being as small as possible and the men wear nothing but Speedo’s. You can tell a Gringo (foreigner) from a mile as they will either wear board shorts or a proper fitting bikini with a sarong. The people here are [View Full Entry]

Lapa

South America » Brazil » Rio de Janeiro » Rio de Janeiro » Copacabana
Morning after Lapa
Morning after Lapa
Shay and I on Copacabana, still partying after Lapa (Just before Shay got her Alcohol Poisoning......Sorry Shay)
Lapa is probably the best night you can have out in Brazil. It is basically one big street party where people spill out of bars and clubs to drink and eat on the street. Lapa is right next to the steps that I spoke about earlier and is the place to be on a Friday night. Some of the clubs and bars are themed and have dressing up equipment so you can have a masquerade ball. The music can vary from mad Brazilian funk/Pop, Reggae, Hip hop and even Nirvana (that’s just in one club).........very random I know. Now is probably [View Full Entry]
