We’re not coming home, we’re staying in Harry Potter’s Wizarding World because it is freaking awesome!!! Waw, what an experience! We both agree it is the best attraction here (Scotty thinks it’s the best place on Earth…) It was pouring with rain when we got there which just made it even more realistic and even though we were drenched we couldn’t stop smiling. Seriously you have to see it for yourself to understand our excitement :) The Harry Potter ride was so good we went on it 3 times, we had a Butterbeer and lunch in the Three Broomsticks which was really tasty. They had the shops from the books/films and in the wand shop, Ollivanders, a wand chose Scotty; Dumbledore’s wand and he had to buy it :) We felt like we were in the ... read more

Another brilliant day in Orlando at Epcot beginning with a ride on Finding Nemo which was fun and Annie saw a dolphin for the first time in the aquarium :) We then made our way around the different countries; Canada, France and the U.K which seemed a lot different to the home we know! But they had a proper fish and chips shop which of course was our lunch :) Morocco was really impressive and looked very realistic, especially the street market. Aladdin and Jasmine were in there too. No we’re not too old to get excited about seeing Disney characters!! From Japan, then, onto America where we watched a play on the history of the place (we may have dropped off a couple of times, not because it was boring, but because it was dark ... read more

Waw, what a day! Universal was awesome and the weather stayed completely dry for us and boiling hot! :) There were so many cool rides and we went on all of them (even the big rollercoaster, Rip Ride Rockit - that was amazing and we could choose our own soundtrack!) We went on a few more than once – we were like big kids! Our favourites were Despicable Me (Phil’s home) The Mummy and Men in Black (Annie beat Scott twice and shot more aliens than him). You will see in the pictures that we bought Phil a new friend :) his name is Stewart (we didn’t name him it’s what he’s called). We are not ashamed to admit that we went on the Despicable Me ride twice and laughed even harder the second time :D ... read more

Hi everyone! Just a quick blog to say we arrived safely in Orlando – it took a looooong time though so our day consisted of bus journeys, walking and a late night meal. We didn’t think you’d want to see pictures of that! We are shattered once again but luckily we don’t have another greyhound journey for 2 weeks :) Universal Studios for us tomorrow! Hopefully we’ll be able to see the other parks and Hurricane Isaac won’t keep us stuck in the hotel! Hope everyone is good back home! Lots of love x x x x... read more

Sorry there wasn’t a blog this morning, we had written one but forgot to publish it, so you can all check that out if you haven’t already seen it! Today we headed out to the French Market which had lots different stalls from tacky ‘designer’ handbags to original pieces of jewellery. Once Annie spotted the cupcake stall she made a beeline for it. They sold literal cupcakes – a cake in a cup!! :) Scotty didn’t go easy on it though, he liked it more! We weren’t as eager to try the alligator mind…we aren’t that adventurous! Amongst all of the voodoo dolls that we’ve seen around New Orleans we found the coolest stall that had characters like the Joker, Spiderman, Shrek and looooooads of other ones. But Scotty had to get the Bob Marley one ... read more

Jackson Square - even more artists today

North America » United States » Louisiana » New Orleans August 22nd 2012

Well we are in love with New Orleans! We started off our day visiting Jackson Square which is full of street artists with their artwork on display, supposed “fortune tellers” and queues of horses and carriages. All of the paintings were cool and funky but one artist’s work caught Scotty’s eye. Despite liking a lot of her pieces he had to settle for a smaller one that would fit in the backpack! We’ve been seeing “Po Boys” advertised in restaurants everywhere and wondered what they were. Well we had one each for lunch and they are a 10” long, 3” high sandwich; definitely filled us up! Just like at Venice Beach there are so many quirky and unique things we want to buy but won’t be able to bring home! Although one stall had loads of ... read more

After an unpleasant bus journey we finally arrived in our New Orleans hotel at 8am. Luckily they were able to check us in early so we took advantage and had a yummy breakfast and a catch up on sleep before heading out for some lunch. We found a small diner along Bourbon Street which had three gay waiters and an old style jukebox (the stereotypical American diner). This is the most unique city we have explored so far; one street is full of art galleries and the one next to it is full of bars with live music. Up each side street there were rows of picturesque houses but some streets had construction work, from the on-going recovery after hurricane Katrina. One thing that impressed us both, was nothing to do with the city, a dog ... read more

North America » United States » Texas » San Antonio August 20th 2012

With a whole day to spare before our night bus to New Orleans we get Scotty some new tops and take a last stroll along the Riverwalk. We didn’t have any sights to rush off to see so we just sat and people watched, we think it’s the first time we’ve switched off our brains! Texas has been a very friendly state from the beginning. While sat in Starbucks we see a random guy buy a starbucks sandwich and drink for a homeless man and just leaving it there without him seeing who it was. We don’t think we’d see that back home! We’re currently on the second bus of the night heading to New Orleans from Houston (yes we’re on a bus using wi-fi – crazy! I know Maggi will struggle to get her head ... read more

Well the storm last night dropped the temperature to bearable for our walking today :) We took advantage of the free breakfast by having cereal, toast, a waffle (freshly made by us!) and some donuts :) When in America… By walking in the wrong direction along the Riverwalk (there were only two directions) we came across the first post office in Texas which was a pretty and traditional building! Then we strolled back the right way along the picturesque river toward the al fresco restaurants and quirky shops. Remember how we said “when in America” well Annie certainly ate like an American for lunch by having not one, but two giant slices of pizza, and then a slice of cookie (see pictures for full detail :D ) Her energy certainly perked up after that! The Alamo ... read more

Day one in San Antonio and it’s just as laid back as Austin. Despite the hotel only being a 15 minute walk to downtown – it is so quiet and lacking in people all the way until the main street where it becomes this bustling town centre with loads of shops and people. Due to Scott losing half of his t shirts to the American washing machine we looked for some new tops for him. The mall is built around a part of the Riverwalk! Annie obviously had to get a cupcake – it was a from a charity stall so she feels justified in consuming the extra calories on top of everything deep fat fried! Sitting back in the hotel, watching Transformers on tv :) a big thunder storm kicks off with torrential rain (feels ... read more
