Our final day in San Francisco, and what a way to spend it! We walked across the Golden Gate Bridge first thing, basking in the morning sunshine. Scott wouldn’t go near the ledge and the crisis helpline posters did not reassure him! His new batman cap nearly flew off in the sea wind, we would have seen some tears if it had. We went back to Pier 39 as it’s our favourite place here out of everything; Scott ate more chowder and we laughed at the sea lions one last time before making our way downtown for a last minute shop. We couldn’t resist another chunk of Cheesecake Factory heaven and scoffed it down as the sun set through the buildings. Today’s entry is short and sweet because we are catching the greyhound to LA shortly ... read more

Yosemite = Epic!! Waw, what a day we’ve had :) sorry to rub it in to you all back home, going to work in the miserable weather but we were in 35 degree heat travelling in a luxury bus and hiking through Yosemite National Park which exceeded our expectations. We saw amazing views, learnt a lot about its history and San Fran’s history and finally experienced Sunny California! Today we learnt that San Fran is THE coldest city in America…so it was lovely to travel 4 hours north to this amazing, beautiful park where the sun was beaming! Our driver was really knowledgeable on the park and San Francisco and on the way back we stopped off on Treasure Island where we had some really nice pictures of the city from a unique viewpoint. We’re looking ... read more

Well we have really seen why this place is called fog city…But once it rises it’s a pretty beautiful one! We walked a total of 17.5 miles (yes we were sad enough to work it out because our feet deserved it.) It would have been less if we hadn’t walked 3 miles in the wrong direction (partly Annie’s fault for having poor map skills and partly Scott’s for trusting her with the map). We did get to see an awful lot of Golden Gate Park though, sorry there aren’t many photos but our body was dedicated to keeping our legs walking instead of lifting our arms to snap the scenery! We also walked to Postcard Row – there were a lot of weird and wonderful houses there! Not your average British terraces. It seems like a ... read more

The weather was foggy today which enhanced the eerie atmosphere of ‘The Rock’ – the overall Alcatraz experience was amazing! We walked around the historic cells listening to an audio tour voiced by some of the old officers and inmates which brought the prison to life, and the stories of the attempted escapes were particularly interesting. It was a surreal feeling that not so long ago, the likes of Al Capone and The Bird Man were incarcerated there. After another long and tiring day we both still agree it was well worth the early morning! We then made the climb up to Crooked Street/Lombard Street, the pictures explain it all! People were queuing in their cars to take a ride down it, but we felt safer on foot! It wasn’t long before we were off again, ... read more

So here it was after two long years of planning and preparation, the moment we had been waiting for was here. The very long day began with an emotional drop off at Heathrow to a tedious plane journey where three people (including Annie) decided to sleep on me whilst I was trying to watch films and complete space invaders. She soon woke up when she smelt the food coming! The wait in immigration was fun and we almost encountered the first hunger tantrum off Annie, she didn’t enjoy queuing anymore and my constant poking obviously wasn’t helping matters, so I carried on… When we had finally passed through the airport we made our way towards our hostel for the next five days which is where I find myself writing this blog after a long 27 hour ... read more
