Hi We are Sarah and Steve of the bloom family. We have 2 children Erica and Alison both teenagers and we will be going to Nicaragua at Christmas to have a break. Our friend Don Montgomery is running a surf camp there and we will stay with him for 5 days. You know typical grass hut on the beach with pounding surf waves.

It is our last day in PEI.  Heather needs to work so we are on our own for the day.  We decided to head up island to see Souris, Red Point and onto Basin Head. On the way we got a text from Alison asking for more money.  Sigh!!! We stopped in Souris to transfer money over at a info stop.  The internet is wonderful I think!!! One of the best things we did was bring a netbook.  It is used everyday for research finding accommodation or checking for things at home.  We had a great time at Basin Head. It was really crowded but what a riot there is a large tidal lake and a narrow channel connecting it with the ocean, also there is a Bridge over the channel  kids were jumping in the ... read more

Day 7 Prince Edward Island Today we (Steve, Heather and Sarah) piled into the car and headed up to the most North Western part of the Island. Cape North or was it North Cape. The drive was along a great highway and fast. The more northern part of the island is a little poorer and slightly more hilly with smaller plots of land. Lots and lots of potatoes but still neat as a pin. It took almost 21/2 hours to get to the top. Sarah was in heaven we found the red cliffs and walked along the top then headed down to a small beach to feel the water. In the distance around the shore we could see some sea caves in the cliff and ended up wading around the cliffbase to the caves. The beach ... read more

Day 7 July 18, 2011 Our first day in PEI! We enjoyed a lazy morning socializing with the Egan family. Heather and I ventured out to the local grocery story, Sobeys, and picked up yummies for dinner-mussels, salmon, salad.... In the afternoon Steve and I traveled to Prince Edward Island National Park-Brackley Beach. We loved the red sandy beach and sand dunes as well as the warm water. Steve managed a swim and I lifeguarded to ensure his safety. Only one other person was strolling on the beach so it was very peaceful and relaxing. We returned to 8 Pleasant St., Charlottetown, and prepared a scrumptious dinner with baked salmon, mussels and salad. Wow, do I ever love seafood and so does everyone else! In the evening we all walked to meet Anna Egan, after ... read more

So we headed out of Digby this morning and headed across the Annopolis Valley along the coast with beautiful farmland lining the land. What gorgeous country! The most exciting event was coming across the Shubenacadie mud flats, a result of the Bay of Fundy's gigantic tidal system. What a riot. On one side of the highway the tourists were watching from afar, keeping themselves pristine clean. We decided to join the locals and see the mud sliding in action and watch the tides come in with the locals enjoying the rush of water. Steve managed to get this on video. What fun!! We arrived a bit too late to run back and get our bathing suits on but definitely had good chats with the locals and wished we were organized to join in. Steve is ... read more

Day 5 Digby Today we took a drive. The original plan was to Kayak the inner harbour and if it looked good to go outside and paddle up to Blue Rocks - but it was raining!! The water was calm but all our rain gear was in the car so we are not really able to adapt to to much. Sarah did get some shoes in Bridgewater so she is more comfortable walking. We headed south in the rain down to Liverpool and headed across the peninsula to Annapolis Royal. It was very much like N. Ontario rolling trees, bush and not much to see alongside the road. Annnopolis fort or Fort Royal, Fort Anne was cool with the Fort set out in a star pattern so each approach could be defended. We watched a ... read more

The second sunny day of our holidays so far. Lunenberg is gorgeous in the sunshine. All the buildings are painted such vibrant colors-red, yellow, blue, green. All these beautiful heritage homes against the blue water is a sight to see. We are so impressed how well cared for all the homes and businesses are. First off today we visited a local distillery, Iron Works and tasted some fantastic infused liquers-not sweet at all. We ended up buying the cranberry infusion and the rum! I loved the cranberry and Steve the rum. Right after this taste sensation we toured the sight of the rebuilding of the Bluenose 2. The smells brought me right back to the boat painting times as a child. What an impressive sight to see such a huge tall ship's hull under construction ... read more

We woke up late 8am. We packed up our bags stored them in a storage room and headed off to the Citadel but didn't make it. Unfortunately Sarah was VERY hungry so we first stopped at Smittys for breakfast - I didn't want any because of the 2 donuts, 1 danish, a huge bowl of raising bran with Blueberries and the 3 cups fo coffee I had just had. - Sarah had a great time with her poached eggs +++. The garden s were very nice and peaceful and old (the last Victorian Garden in Canada) - a lot of workers taking care of the beds etc.! We wandered all over trying out my GPS only to find that I had is programmed it and we were walking in circles. We quickly got it going right ... read more

July 13, 2011 We have just had a gorgeous day on the Halifax waterfront enjoying the marine activity, museums, walking, rick shaw ride and seafood. What a beautiful waterfront! We started off exploring the Acadia, a hydro-graphic survey boat that worked along the east coast of Canada mapping the contours of the ocean floor. It was a working boat from the 1913 up to 1969. We also took the ferry across the harbor to Dartmouth and enjoyed our picnic lunch with fresh strawberries from a local market-very sweet! We then headed back to Halifax and toured the Maritime museum-lots of majestic model ocean liners and an exhibit on the Titanic-artifacts.... very interesting. Sarah really wanted to see Pier 21 Museum which focuses on the immigrants to Canada from the early 1900's and after the war. On ... read more

What a great plane flight everything went extremely smoothly with a short stop in Calgary in the sun and onward to Halifax directly. We brought a great lunch so our digestive systems were not compromised with bad processed airplane food. The stewardess Lisa has a sister Josette Dalsin who is a faculty person at TRU in education and we know her (Sarah mostly) - coincidences really happen!!! We did get some unfortunate information through email from our truck transport company. Their truck broke down in Kenora and wont be leaving until today so I expect we will be renting a car our bicycles or something for 3 -5 days until our car gets here. Great idea to send our car out baaaaaaaad company - Double Line Transport.. They say all the right things, have all the ... read more

hi everyone! We have just left Esteli and are now in Managua getting ready for the trip home in the morning. We spent a very interesting 3 days staying in a home up in the mountains of Nicaragua. The people were fantastic as usual but what a way to live. It started with us not wnating to pay $200 US to get to our reserved home call Posada La Perla so we took the chicken bus. It went up and up from essentially sea level to 5,000 feet. We were in an old schol bus made in Missassagua (Blue Bird( AND WE STOPEED EVERY kM. It took almost 2 hrs to climb into the mountains. As it turns out the man we spoke with in Esteli was to be our guide and later we found out ... read more
