Today was a good day. We are in Bangkok for a day and night before our flight to Ko Samui. Khao San Road is actualy a pretty cool place to be despite our earlier criticisms in our last blog on Bangkok. The best thing about today was that it felt like we were normal people again. We had a few little errands to do such as going to the bank in perparation for Cambodia to get dollars - they don't like their own currency there and the post office and stuff. We managed to squeeze in a traditional massage in the home of Thai massage Wat Po where Andrew was twisted and tied into various positions. We also managed to get to the National Muay Thai Boxing Stadium in Bangkok and saw the Thai champion fighting. ... read more

It's Thursday evening, January 26th and I'm back in Bangkok. I flew in last night from Phuket and made my way to KT Guesthouse ($12), a nice place to crash for a night but a bit far from Bangkok central (not necessarily a bad thing). I met up with my friend Jonathan this morning and we moved over to the Rex hotel on Sukhumvit near the sky train (easier to get around the city from there). It's been great hanging out with Jonathan again. We've been friends for about 10 years (has it been that long?), having met through doing high school ministry together at Calvary Community Church. Unfortunately, we've only got a couple of days since I head to Chiang Mai on the 28th and he leaves for Krabi that same day with his girlfriend ... read more

Saa naaede jeg Bangkok, byen over alle byer. Flyveturen herned gik simpelthen super.

It's been a little over three weeks since Glenn and I stumbled out of Don Muang Airport at midnight, into the smoggy streets of Bangkok, and a lot has happened since then! But don't worry, I'm not going to try to give a full account of all our travels! Instead, I'll just pick out some of the highlights. First week (Bangkok): Glenn and I used the time til Joel arrived mainly just to relax and explore Bangkok. Or, more honestly, to explore some of Bangkok's shopping centres. =P We ate a lot of very good and very cheap food, moved hostels a number of times to get an idea of Bangkok's different 'backpacker' neighbourhoods, saw a couple of movies (standing with everyone else for the Thai national anthem, played amongst the trailers for upcoming films), adapted ... read more

In Bangkok now and I had my doubts that I would hate it, being a city I was comparing it to New Delhi and Mumbai but I love it! It's much more quiet than I imagined and pretty clean. We're staying just off Khao San Road where most of the travellers go and the whole street is a market with the cheapest clothes, shoes, bags etc, and they're all really good quality too. Me and Patrice have already planned on taking out lots of money (well probably about 60 pounds or so) and buying loads of things and posting them back home! Today we bought 3 pairs of Birkenstocks for 5 pounds!! Thats less than 2 pounds each!! I'm sure they're not real but they are really good quality. Also bought 2 bikinis for about a ... read more

We have arrived in Bangkok, after a long night at Mumbai airport we are now in the welcoming district of Bangkok, alongside the Khaosan Road- a shoppers paradise- don't ask what I have bought already! We have arranged a tour of the city for tomorrow morning and have to decide tonight what other sights we want to see as we plan to make our way down to the islands on Monday. I love it already- there is a certain buzz about, (thought this might be the trill of shopping!), but seriously, there are a lot of travellers about, lots of tour offices and of course the beloved Tuc- Tuc drivers who are will to cater for our every need!... read more

Hello dear ones... I am back in Bangkok, getting my visa stamped for India, and saying goodbye to Thailand. I was so sad to leave Chiang Mai and my massage school friends and program, which is continuing for another week. There are certain times when a group just bonds strongly due to arriving at the same time needing connections, and the right chemistry. We had that all. Last night I had a farewell dinner with some friends, then got in my tuktuk (motorbike taxi) with a Polish guy going the same way and headed for the bus station. I felt like I was leaving a familiar, beloved place and community. My experience in Bangkok so far has left me cursing it and missing Chiang Mai even more. Everyone here is more curt, jaded, and everything is ... read more
