Wow after a 12 hour flight from London to Bangkok, we finnaly arrivesd this afternoon in Bangkok. The wait in London was super duper long and we had trouble adjusting to the jet lag. We slept for a good part of the flight to Bangkok. When we got here this afternoon, we waited for the shutlle bus for 45 min and then the bus took us towards downtown...in the middle of the rush hour!!!! It was pretty intense! I think we stayed at the same spot for a good 30 min. At one point we decided it was too long, we got off the bus and started walking. It turned out it was as fast as the bus. The streets and sidewalks are soooo crowded here! Its incredible!!! First cultural shock: the bathrooms/showers....Its all in the ... read more

Imagine...... a great hour long massage every day for just about no money. Well ifyou know me (or Brnedon) thats just about the closet to heaven you can get. It's day 2 of our honeymoon & we love Bangkok. Well so far we're finding Bangkok great! It was really sad saying goodbye to everyone at the airport - we shed a tear or two when we passed through customs & I did again on the plane. But we're really excited and so far loving Bangkok. We flew in at about 3am NZ time, getting to our hotel at about 4.30 / 5am (I'd been up at 5.30 am that morning to go to my final Les Mills class), and although we were shattered, we wanted to stretch our legs after the plane flight, so we went ... read more

Thailand is crazy... why? It all starts at Bangkok National Airport. There is a freaking golf course in between the landing strips. I kid you not. I did not even see a fence around it. I would not like to collect the golf balls for all the wannabe Tiger Woods playing there. The place is so cheap...crazy. I can get 3 great meals a day for less than 200 Bath (4.5 euro) and have a nice room for 2.5 euro or less. The place is so hot...over 30 degrees... and it's winter!!! Looking forward to summer...ahum Traffic is crazy. Red light means cars might stop. Crossing a street means, jumping in as soon as you think you can cross 1/4 of the road, waiting there while all traffic flies past you and repeating this procedure until ... read more

Hello viewers! Found a computer that has let us update the website at last! Arrived 07.00am in Bangkok, sat next to some random bloke who believe it or not supported wycombe!!!(Loser) anyway our accomodation was called lampuhouse and was down this little side alley (looked dodgy) but it turned out good, especially for 6 pounds a night for 2 of us! Slept most of the first day (9.00am-5.00pm) , Just as well cause Bangkok is a @#$% hole (sorry for the language). Did some shopping down the night market (kho san rd ) and a bit of drinking which is the best thing about it. Saw this brillant beer glass (1ft tall!!) but was a bit to hard to pinch! Thats about all for Bangkok, we moved on as soon as we could!!! Next stop Chaing ... read more

I am downstairs in Wildorchid Villa on Soi Rambuttree near Kosan Rd. This is the most expensive place we have stayed at, being 650 baht $22 a night. We arrived late and our room was gone on the first night as i was apparently supposed to reconfirm 5 nights before. This area is busy busy and full of tourists. The streets are a soup of people, food, sweat, noise, fumes, stalls and smiles. We have been ripped off by a tuk tuk driver and a TAT travel agent to the amount of $40. This is really annoying as they smooth talk you out of it rather than physically taking it. We went back and told them off, and reported it to the tourist police though. It is good heed for the rest of the trip. Bangkok is interesting, quite crazy, and ... read more

We arrived into Bangkok airport at about 3pm after a good flight then we were taxing across the run way we looked out the window and there was a golf course in the middle of it!! We thought of you Dad but I'm sure that's a course you would be quite happy not to play on! Once we wandered out of the airport into the Thai heat (which felt great compared to the cold, icey, wet weather we'd been used to in the UK!) we got an airport bus into Bangkok to the Koh San Road. We headed to a couple of hotels to check for vacancies but they were full up so when we came to ours we were hot and bothered and quite frankly couldn't be bothered to walk anymore so we checked into ... read more

We headed to Bangkok once more, in order to catch our scheduled flight to Hong Kong. Delighted to hear that Steve's folks - Hazel and Derek - will be jetting out to see us there. Before we flew on, we concocted an evil plan to buy all the Thai souvenirs that we really wanted in our heart of hearts but had been put off by having to lug it around on our back of backs. Nothing too crazy, just a few elephant foot umbrella stands, a life size emerald Buddha and the complete works of Jeffrey Archer in hardback. I am sure our unsuspecting mules will squeeze it all into their suitcases somehow. Bangkok is still the frenetic, crazy 24 hour hub it was the first time round. We felt we hadn't really done it justice ... read more

This is my last entry of my December 6, 2005 to January 6, 2006 Thailand journey. I have been back home now for for several days now and almost totally recovered from my jet lag. Even though I enjoyed my journey, it's great to be back home. It's nice having my own computer, high speed internet, and hdtv again. Not to mention being able to sleep in my own bed! I have gone through most of my mail that I had held while I was away. It's surprising at the amount of junk mail I get! The only real loss of the trip was that my Creative Zen Micro mp3 player stopped working. I sent it in for repair today and should get it back in about 2 weeks. It was still within warranty but there ... read more
