Well if February was the month of birthdays, with 1-3 birthday parties each weekend, then March was the month of missing touch. What do I mean? Well, let me explain. Anyone who knows us over here knows that the most important event in our weekly calendar occurs from 11am-1pm every Saturday. It’s the touch rugby tournament in Tooting Common. We leave home at 10.30 and cycle, walk or jog to the Common in time to hand over a pound and select our team from the 40-75 people who turn up. Generally the better players tend to arrive a bit earlier, so [View Full Entry]

Well we’re off to France next week so it’s well and truly time I finally publish my Spanish blog. I was holding off until I could stop the world moving and get a bit of creativity back to do justice to the beautiful Semana Santa (Easter celebrations) we witnessed in Spain. However life in London never seems to slow down long enough for one to catch their breath - let alone the mind space to write something as beautiful as these magical processions deserved. As it is I am writing this with the boys (David & Brendon) watching some programme about [View Full Entry]

Bonnie, not sure about her new surroundings/
Well after a hectic January that put December to shame, and a busy start to February we finally got a weekend to ourselves. Bliss! And what did Brendon do? He went native and started checking out a whole lot of the wildlife. Am I jealous? Not really. Let me explain..... Johnnie, our Scottish friend and fellow Clapham resident jetted off to his girlfriend's home in Australia for 3 weeks well needed rest. Given that he had flown to America for a couple of days, returned on Tuesday morning, and flown out to Kuwait on Tuesday night - both trips for work [View Full Entry]

We really enjoyed this. The camels were far easier to ride than we'd been told and you can't get more Egyptian than riding around the pyramids on camel back.
This blog should more accurately be called ‘a trial in sleep deprivation’ More on that soon… Well you may or may not know that Egypt was kind of thrust upon us - or at least chosen without our usual thorough planning. At about the same time as we reached the conclusion that we wanted to go somewhere hot for Christmas - the Arctic Circle in Norway and the freezing wet & windy Edinburgh for Hogmanay did seem to drag out the cold, dark winter last year - we were invited to join some friends in Egypt for the Christmas break. Looking back over Prague from the castle.
Well it doesn't seem very long ago that we were sunning ourselves and cooling off with dips in the Adriatic. Now, just a couple of months later it's getting dark at 4pm and a whole lot colder. Not too cold. As we have just found out, Prague makes London seem positively balmy. Forewarned about the drop in temperature we all packed thermals, stockings, hats, gloves, scarves and even our tramping boots (for the snow). Even so, on a cold, sleet / snow filled Sunday morning I saw Brendon's, Paloma's & finally (Paloma's boyfriend) Colin's faces go progressively white, red nosed, dripping [View Full Entry]

Yep. We had a pretty hard time in Croatia. It was hot, sunny and calm and the water was refreshing and ridiculously clear. What else for a Piscean water baby to do when on a sailboat cruise than spe... [more]

That's right "The Mummies" arrived safe & sound in London & we dragged them off to enjoy the sun drenched coasts and charming swarthy men of Amalfi. Well, perhaps they just enjoyed the men's flattery, as remember "the Daddies" were stuck in the office at home. Mum, and her close friend Mary travelled over to this side of the world to celebrate Mary's 60th and visit their 'babies'. ‘The mummies’ arrived in London & took a taxi to our home in Clapham on Tuesday 14th August. I took Wednesday off work and had a lovely day showing them around our neighbourhood. [View Full Entry]

Spring blossoms
Spring blossoms
The first blossoms on our plum & apple trees - in the light of the setting sun.
‘Spring has sprung! Spring has sprung.’ So Dog, our favourite four-legged friend from Footrot Flats used to say. Shortly afterwards he would slink off to meet his favourite four legged friend - Jess, a female border collie - who always happened to be in heat in Spring. On the way he would pass such symbolic scenes as new lambs gambolling and birds nesting. Well as I wander along the swathed in the evening scents of spring I wonder what Dog would have made of Spring in the UK. It has everything we experienced in NZ but so much more. Uk, [View Full Entry]

No joke - this kid chugged away at his beer. His parents reckon he loves the stuff!
Well it is rather embarrassing to admit that while I have an Irish passport, and both Brendon & I have rellies originating from Dublin, neither of us have ever been to Dublin. Well, not that is, until a couple of weekends ago when we had an opportunity too good to pass up. Our touch team organised a social tournament with a bunch of people in Ireland. And we agreed to go - being thrilled that we’d finally get to see where our sncestors were from - albeit briefly. We flew over on the Friday night, checked out the infamous and [View Full Entry]
