So this was a long OVER due blog but I have been running around so much this last month I have had trouble finding time to even breathe(really it has been busy ha) Anyways...I had the wonderful Allyson Carlson visit me in Taiwan over the Chinese New Year *Feb 18-24..it was so awesome to have her here and for her to experience something that is so important in the Chinese culture...though I think it would have been cooler if I would have had a Chinese family to tag us around and explain a lot of stuff but I htink we did a good job on our own figuring it out! So allyson came in on Sunday....we spent a lot of time catching up...I wanted to hear all about the wedding plans and the craziness of ... read more

HIPPOS WEAR BIG UNDERPANTS. This was the answer to my hang-man game in one afternoon class…coincidentally, this was also the same day my boss decided to watch me teach from the back window (I blame not seeing her earlier, on the shadow). I’m allowed to play educational games as long as the content is from our books and we WERE learning about zoo animals that particular week. The look on her face screamed “why did I ever let that crazy foreigner work here in the first place”, but the kids’ expressions told me otherwise. Conclusion: I came thousands and THOUSANDS of kilometers away from home only to discover that words pertaining to ‘underthings’ and ‘poo’ are universally funny (hold rare breeds such as bosses and police officers). These, and other similar embarrassments…er…memories…are what this whole journey ... read more

OK. January 30th seems like a good time to write another blog. I had to pick the right time, that’s all. I am now starting to wrap up my life here in Taiwan as my year contract is coming to a close in March. I can’t really believe it. It’s a bittersweet time for me since I really love it here… but also love Canada, my family, friends… the real world (well…the last one is a scary thought -although my family runs a close second ; ) My sisters are having babies like it’s in fashion, Jake has been patient, Barrhaven has a Swiss Chalet…and the list goes on. It’s about my time. Back around Christmas time, Jake was here for vacation. We went to Thailand and Laos for 5 weeks which proved to be so ... read more

I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU because you come read my blog. haha. no but Wo ai ni is I love you in chinese...it will prolly become my second most favorite words besides "hua." anyways. I really love the amount of free time I do have in Taiwan to sit and think and reflect. it does the body good!!! And I was reading one of my favorite ladies blogs today and I have to agree with her with the fact that You do find yourself laughing a lot living here. No matter where you are, wether it is being in the 7-Eleven staring at the 15 different choices of Doritos to buy like shrimp seafood and the Black prawn pepper Pringels--WTF, or when you are scooting down the street and you see a little old woman wheeling her ... read more

he is the STORY OF MY LIFE this is just a quicky but i thought you would enjoy (and i need to remember these moments) about my scooter encounters this weekend!!! First...I was driving home the other night, Saturday, and I happened to go through a light by the hospitals like I always do and like everyone else does....and all the sudden i get the whistle blow and orange flag stick. WTF. anyways, the police said soemthing to me in chinese, where i just proceed to look at them like a dumb american and say..."what" finally they laughed, i htink out of frustration, held up one finger, maybe telling me it was my first warning...and then let me go. OK. And today, when I was just wanting to go to a movie, which i saw ... read more

Well.....it's time for a serious blog...a little more about reflection and being a traveler. I met a great person down in the Dirty, a type of foreigner, besides the ones that I already have, that I didn't think exisited, but she became one of my closest friends over the last few months, but sadly, she is departing to Thailand to lay on the beach, eat banana pancakes, swing in hammocks, and enjoy life...(which Rach and I will be joining her to do so in a couple of weeks)....anyways....I think of this quote: Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.-- Anonymous Jodi was one of those people who came into my life so quickly. I think it is ... read more

What kinda crazyness did I get myself into?............... So last week I joined a friend and went with her and her co-workers from work to this Paintballing field. honestly i thought it was going to be something like balloon paintballing, not like gun paintballing. I was scared to death. pretty much hid behind these walls the whole time, until once when Jodi and I thought we were being really sneaky, we totally got ambushed and were attacked from behind. talk about major brusies, swelling, and pain on the buttocks and thighs. those things KILL!!!! so from then on i just threw up my gun and just shoot rounds after rounds aiming at no one, hoping to hit someone. haha. but I did have a good time. its kinda fun if you are really into it i ... read more

ALL FOR SOME SWEET AS SUGAR WOODEN HAND PAINTED/HAND CRAFTED umbrellas, mobiles, and laterns I just want you all to know that I rolled with the big dogs this weekend and me and the green goblin, with Holly backside, traveled to Meinong, the Hakku town to get some sweet sweet souveniers. and i cant wait to show them off. it was a pretty interesting, cold ride. But I made it, and it was worth the trip. Even the wild monkeys were pretty cool, didnt have to pay money to see these ones in a Zoo!!!! We also saw some beautiful scenery, this town was so peaceful in the mountains, i really wish I could live there, but I dont think I would be able to stand the quiteness, nor lack there of, any sort of ... read more

has officially hit! And I have learned a few things.........so here it goes: ("you"--- most times meaning, I- ha) - the locals will always pick their nose and burp w/o saying excuse me or cover it up some way - when you, as a foreigner, at least try and speak some sort of chinenglish, the locals have a little more respect for you - i have dominated my favorite foods and drinks and quotes in chinese--here are a few: -wo yao ebay pijio - wo yao neu ro mein -wo yao lu cha ban tang -wo buchido -xie xie -ni hua - when driving in Taiwan, be VERY aware of others around you...they will stop, drive, turn, pass in EVERY way possible- legal or not - when teaching a foreign language, make it interesting, have ... read more

I had to get my head medicine changed last week as well because it was making me rediculously tired, like i felt like I was on medicine to make me depressed or something----it wasn't helping me heal..it was making me feel wayyyyyyyyyy too ... read more
