Well I can't say that the last few days have had any poignant moments. Just the big soup bowl effect from Nyquilling 3 consecutive nights. Not just for the sheer joy of being delerious the next day- but because both Sam and I have been sick. I think that I have more combined sleep time then awake time here- but we did manage to Motorbike through the countryside Walk into a 'fine establishment' called the music bar (inoccuous enough) which ended up being either a brothel- (most likely) or one of those places to which one pays a girl in drinks or cash for her attention- As we established that it wasn't a strip club and had ordered a drink before this observation we we're stuck- I tried to order a long island about 5 times ... read more

Ok, I ripped off some sort of semi-clever t-shirt. It's an interesting feeling waking up and saying to yourself "I want to go to Cambodia today," and a few hours and a few dollars later arriving. A few days and dollars later Sam and I are sitting in the GST guesthouse in Sihanoukville, 3 crazy hours on a bus south of Phenom Penh. We've arranged to get visas overnighted for Vietnam and thats about it aside from eating and sitting on the beach. We are both fighting a cold- But snorkeling and motorcycling the countryside of Cambodia are in the near future. ... read more

So we left you last, relaxed and ready for road in Trat. On Koh Chang all conversation about Cambodia had lead to bad news...corruption, swept away roads, rough sea crossings, pirates, ambushes. We were beginning to wonder if maybe it would be easier to book ourselves a hammock in Phuket and wait for our November 24th flight to Manila...but no we braved the frontier. We awoke early in Trat and ventured out to grab a songthaew to drop us to the bus station where we would catch a minibus to the Thai-Cambodian border (Hat Lek-Koh Kong). We were joined by two ropey looking Italians and an East Berliner, who I was convinced was going to plant drugs on me and let me rot in a Cambodian jail until I was executed. Our first battle was with the ... read more

Hi Everyone!! Great to hear your comments and emails following our first blog attempt - we now consider ourselves veterans so here goes... We've been travelling around Cambodia for the last 10 days or so, and the vast differences with Thailand were obvious as soon as we set one foot across the border. Barefooted children pushing wooden carts on wooden wheels around by means of 'taxiservice', grubby toddlers begging for money and food, lots of rubbish everywhere and, most importantly to us at that point in time - the road just stopped. That's right, nothing but muddy, rocky, slippery clay on which we were about to travel 130 kms in about 10 hours. The dancing road, they call it jokingly. Well the joke was on us and boy did we boogie every time we hit a ... read more

You may not know this and we didn't until we came to Asia, but Cambodia has beaches and a coastline. So with recommendations from other travellers and the usual stuff in the guide books we headed to the town of Sihanoukville. Our bus from Phnom Penh was harmless enough. One funny thing that did happen was this. A local guy was sat diagonally to us all dressed in flashy clothes and gold jewellry. With tourists infront. Imagine this! We have only just got on the bus and only just set off (4 hours to go!!) We want to relax!! This guy starts looking and staring at us and the older couple sat infront of us. Then he starts talking to the couple in front, with the usual "where are you from, where have you been rubbish". ... read more

Hey all, Here we sit listening to the waves crash on the beach a mere 20 feet from this computer! We are lucky creatures indeed. The ironic part is that the weather is stormy and coolish down here on the south coast. We are in Sihanoukville taking a couple days of r and r before heading back up to Phnom Penh and then flying to Vientiane in Laos. We were going to go overland into Laos but we don't have Visas yet and it takes at least 24 hours of wasted time in Phnom to get them processed. If we fly into Laos, we get a Visa on entry. Since we were in Phnom Penh we travelled down to Kampot, a small town close to the Southeast coast. When we arrived we decided to try our ... read more

Wednesday 28th June Laura - Still haunted by the jungle, I woke up several times during the night convinced that there were huge spiders all over the bed! This was not fun, although Paul was mildly amused with this because he'd stayed up to watch the late football. We woke up at 11am and checked out of our hostel to wait around for the 'shared' taxi to Sihanoukville (a beach town on the South Coast). The taxi turned up on time, which obviously took us by surprise. Then we were off. To the taxi rank.... We sat in the taxi rank for 20 minutes, watching all the taxi drivers racing towards anyone who came within 100m of the place and fighting over who was going to take the fares. Our driver had considerately swapped the Cambodian ... read more

well...it could quite possibly be classed as the best weekend of the trip...and certainly one of the best birthdays of my life...i'm not gonna bore you with details of how just minutes after arriving from PP I was on the beach sipping a thick fruit smootie and having a massage...or details of our rooftop 'penthouse' apartment at 'Eden', our beautiful wooden guesthouse situated on 'Serendipity' beach.... nope..i won't talk about the long days of walking along white sands and eating freshly caught lobsters (6 for $1)..or the long nights of drinking 'Mekong' buckets and awful red wine (who were we trying to fool huh?? good wine in Cambodia??) and dancing away to J5 and Cut Chemist(!!) with Hugh from Utopia (a heavenly beach shack bar which was demolished the day after we left to make way ... read more
