Hey All, Well, in fact, we are now back in Vancouver sleeping in our lovely bed with clean, soft sheets. But, we must tell you about the last few days of the Southeast Asia journey. To sum it up, they were a mix of heaven and hell. We decided to take the overnight train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and we both were looking forward to the train ride. All was going well. The train was comfy and not crowded. About 2 hours into the ride, the train suddenly stopped. We thought it just had to wait for another train to pass or something, but after about an hour we realized that something was going on. We didn’t get any info until a kid in a youth group told us “the wild water of the woods ... read more

Sa Wat Di from Thailand! We have covered much ground since we last wrote, using many types of transportation, including various types of boats, buses, tuk-tuks, bicycles, a 4x4 and our own feet! We hung out a while longer in Luang Prabang but had to leave and start heading up to the North of Laos because we wanted to do some trekking. We were going to break up the long bus ride to Luang Nam Ta, but at the bus station we decided to bite the bullet and bought a ticket for the entire ride north. It took a good 10 plus hours to reach our destination after, again, another slight breakdown. But we made it and headed for the first possible guest house to lay down! Since we had come to the North to go ... read more

Sabaidee, Since we last wrote, we made our way from the beach in Cambodia into Laos. We flew from Phnom Penh to the Laos capital city, Vientiane, a nice city of 200, 000 and pretty laid back as far as a capitol goes. 70-80% of Laotians live in rural areas so that explains Laos' reputation of being the least developed country in Southeast Asia. But our experiences in this beautiful country have been anything but backwards. We soon moved onto Vang Vieng to limit our lengthy bus trips, as travel is slow through the mountains. That town lived up to its reputation as a mecca for backpackers seeking a refuge of bars playing re-runs of 'Friends' at full blast. Too weird! Aside from the sitcom phenomenon, the place was cool with its beautiful mountain vistas. After ... read more

Hey all, Here we sit listening to the waves crash on the beach a mere 20 feet from this computer! We are lucky creatures indeed. The ironic part is that the weather is stormy and coolish down here on the south coast. We are in Sihanoukville taking a couple days of r and r before heading back up to Phnom Penh and then flying to Vientiane in Laos. We were going to go overland into Laos but we don't have Visas yet and it takes at least 24 hours of wasted time in Phnom to get them processed. If we fly into Laos, we get a Visa on entry. Since we were in Phnom Penh we travelled down to Kampot, a small town close to the Southeast coast. When we arrived we decided to try our ... read more

Hey everyone! Well after the amazing Angkor we planned on taking the 'fast' ferry to Battambang and were told it would be a good 4hrs trip, since the water level was adequte. Well, a bum numbing 10hrs later we made our destination and despite the hunger pangs, it was still an interesting spectacle to see all the boat people and their interesting ways of life. I guess we should have known the boat ride would take awhile when we broke down 5mins after leaving! In Battambang, we were just into chilling after the long trip, and we couldn't decide what to do. So, instead of dithering we went out the next morning to Kompong Chhnang, a nice little town which is a minimal tourist destination. We had a great little countryside tour on a moto. Hello all! We are here in lovely Cambodia. Yup, the weather is pretty sweaty but not too bad. The trip from Vancouver to Siem Reap was long and we visited many airports in the process. The Cambodian people are great and friendly. Life seems to go at a bit more of a relaxed pace. David appreciates seeing all the cyclists and scooters that dominate the roads. Cars have to wait for bikes and everyone seems to get along just fine. Day One in Siem Reap we got right down to seeing the sights. We arranged a car to take us around to the furthest temples. So amazing! In the first day we visited Preah Khan, Neak Pream, The Bayon, Ta Prohm, Ta Som and Srah Srang. If any of you have seen "Baraka"you will recognize The ... read more
