We've stayed another day in Moab as our base for visiting nearby Canyonlands National Park and Deadhorse Point State Park. We started the morning off with Deadhorse, which is on a mesa. The story about the name is that the Indians would herd wild horses on the mesa to this point so that they could capture them but some would run right off the edge. The views are much like the Grand Canyon, and in fact were formed by the same river, the Colorado River. From there we went to Canyonlands, which is on another side of the same mesa, with even bigger canyon views. Barb and I hiked a short climb to see a section called Upheaval Dome, well worth the hike.
We went back into Moab for an early dinner and spent the evening seeing another section of Canyonlands from another entrance point south of Moab.
It was a long busy day and we've worn our eyes out from looking at so much beauty. Tomorrow we will move on to the next national park.
