Our tour today was described as the Highlights of Ajaccio, which is in Corsica. We were coached out to what I can only describe as a car park with a view of some towers in the distance. Everyone was underwhelmed. Along the way we passed lots of fancy tombs in which all the local families were buried. This would have been an innteresting place to visit. However we drove by these to stop at Napolean's Cave, a rock under which he would sit when he got tired of being with his 11 brothers and sisters and a monument to him by the side of this which commemorated all the battles he fought whether he lost or won same. Finally we got off the coach in the town and passed by the monument to Napolean and his 4 brothers and then walked into the centre of the old town, the Citadel, where the old city walls are and the Cathedral, a nice area with the usual restaurants and odd narrow steets. Our guide who had the most peculiar English which was more like Franglais with very odd sentence construction took us into the Cathedral. I had lost the plot by this time and walked around by myself and then waited till the others had gone round with the guide. We came off the tour at this point and left the others to visit the house where Napolean lived and various other places where his relatives were buried, and made our own way back to the ship for a drink on the sundeck followed by long lunch.
Later I am pleased to report that we finally won the Trivia quiz so we headed up to the pool bar to have a celebratory champagne. We opened another bottle on the balcony as we sailed away from Corsica.
As we wanted to finally see one of the shows we had a relatively early dinner with the Cruise Director and her Deputy, who also had to be around for the show. It was a song and dance show with 2 spectacular aerialists. I do not know how on earth they managed to bend their legs at such peculiar angles! Would love to see x-rays of their hips! However it was all very clever and entertaining.
