We left Cartagena after a trip to the Optician. The mongrels that took my bag took my prescription sunglasses. It can be soooo bright here that I had to get clip-ons, not elegant but they do the job.

We decided to head for Granada via the port city of Almeria. Just lovely having lunch sitting on the foreshore promenade. Pity about the wind belting through at a great rate of knots.

Then off to Granada. Rob was in complete ecstacy when he started seeing hundreds of wind turbines, then fields of solar thermal panels and more fields of solar panels.

It must be commented that the Spanish roads are truly excellent. Even when you get off the toll roads they are top notch with good surfaces, everything well signed and marked. Then there are the drivers. What we thought were speed limit signs clearly are only advisory. After a little time on the wrong side of the road in an unfamiliar car we were comfortable with sitting on the 120 km/hr limit but most others are doing 20 - 30 kmh more than this. Seems like everyone is in a desperate rush. They certainly let you know when

you are holding them up. Truck drivers are well disciplined or controlled always sitting in the slow lane at their 100 kmh limit and clearing the fast lanes as quickly as they can.

Then we hit the streets of Granada. We are in the old city of Albaicin. They are paved with round river pebbles and are as narrow as anything. We have 4 pages with photos of how to get here. It was heart failure for most of the way. Rob has a few more grey hairs but the car is fine. (Rob here. The car has now been driven through gaps it is not physically able to pass thru. My blood pressure can attest to the truth in this matter. No further correspondence will be entered into.)

After a cuppa we decided to walk down to the City Centre. Tapas was the thought for dinner tonight but the place we were recommended was not open . We found a very nice place instead where we partook of ham croquettes and calamari. The walk back up the hill was a bit hard but we have superb views over the city and across to the infamous Alhambra to

A bit hard to photograph from the car with a phone. The area covered by these wind farms and solar farms is quite enormous. The Spanish show how to do this properly.

Pretty infertile, rocky looking soil. It is amazing that the Valencia orange groves do so well in this sort of soil.

Ah yes... I remember those river pebble paths. Enjoy Granada!
