Chichen Itza is probably the most renown Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula.

I found luckily a spot to pitch my tent outside of a guest house in the little "Pueblo" of Piste, a quiet and very friendly place with beautiful and colourful houses.

The idea of bringing with me a tent was just great to explore Chichen Itza staying in the Mayan communities that are spread around the surrounding region, and allowing me the opportunity to spend several days exploring the ruins with no rush and saving plenty of money.

Chichen Itza is a huge Maya site and to be able to visit it properly I stayed for a few days in the little town of Piste which I recommend.

There are dozens of buildings to explore around Chichen Itza.

Some of which are: the Temple of the Warriors, the Temple of the Jaguars and the Pyramid of Kukulcan.

But the amazing thing ,here, is that there are many Mayan ruins spread allover the area and I could even spend weeks exploring the surroundings

of this magical place.

Only thing is that, Chichen Itza is a UNESCO place and it is packed with souvenirs vendors which have also interesting stuff to take a look at.

here, there are crowds of tourists so I went fairly early in the morning in order to avoid the unbearable masses of tourists coming wth their buses from other towns like Cancun or Tulum.

Though excessively packed with people I enjoyed my presence here, even though Chichen Itza ,right now, looks like a wel maintained garden instead of Ruins immersed in the forest.

I enjoyed scrolling through your bright blue sky photos. I agree that Piste is lovely quiet little town...we enjoyed our time exploring it, especially as it was a great antidote for the crowds in Chichen Itza :)

Chichen Itza
To bring your tent and camp in Piste was obviously a master stroke Marcos. To be able to wander the ruins at your pace without the hordes of tourists sounds like an experience I cannot find the words for the delight and interest that must have resulted. Seeing this Mayan mask carved in stone I think it must have been fascinating to see the difference in style between Mayan and Aztec carvings.

Chichen Itza
Truly it was an unforgettable experience cause the hordes of tourist there was impressive but I still got to take pictures without many people around the ruins. Piste was super and the local people very friendly. I love both styles but Mayan carvings are my favourite,personally. I am happy to have had the opportunity to visit most of the archeological sites in Mexico,it as very interesting and cultureful.
