Yes we got on the flight
We’re in 5b & 5c, no body in front of us nor behind us
Our flight attendant asks would you like some Champagne ma’am?
Kirsten smiles and says….. oh Yes please.
We get our menu and Kirsten selected the beef tenderloin and I selected the Mediterranean chicken dinner. Kirsten loved hers and mine was fantastic. Oh yeah, the Rioja wine was good as well.
I watched the movie Hail Caesar; it was ok but glad I didn’t pay to go and see it.
About half way through the movie our attendant offered me some port wine. I couldn’t be rude and refuse so I had a few glasses.
As the movie is finishing and I finish the last of my port, my eyes are getting heavy and I’m thinking I need some sleep.
I push the button and the seat turns into a bed. I stretch out and look over at Kirsten and ask; you having a good time? She smiles and says yes I am.
I fall asleep before my head hits the pillow. Well I slept like a baby in the back seat of
a coupe de ville. At one point, it was a little bumpy but I was back asleep within minutes.
The next thing I remember was Kirsten waking me up. Breakfast is here are you hungry?
I didn’t think I would be hungry but I was. We had a nice hot breakfast and as I was finishing the pilot announced “Folks We’ll be landing in about thirty minutes”.
The landing was smooth and we slid through passport control; well Kirsten did. I always have a hiccup the guy is looking at me and grilling me on why I’m here and then finally says are you with her? Yeah! He stamps my passport and lets me through.
We find the Hertz counter, I show my reservation to the agent and she looks it up and says sorry we don’t have your reservation. You can imagine the look on Kirsten’s face. You didn’t make the reservation. I did, I really did. Sure you did.
As I’m there pleading my case the phone rings of course my first response is not to answer it and Kirsten is still giving me the “Darden missed your project date again” look.
Hello, Mr. Vaughan, Yes this is Kemwel, Yes, your car reservation isn’t with Hertz, No Duh!
Sorry sir, we’ve been calling trying to reach you for the last hour. Do I have a car? Yes sir, it’s at Avis we just posted it.
While I have the Kemwell guy on the line, I walk up to the Avis counter and ask if they have a reservation for Vaughan. He quickly checks and promptly says no!
The Kemwell guy tells me to have the Avis guy refresh his screen.
He does and I now have a car. I really don’t know what the Kemwell guy did…. but the Avis folks could not have been any nicer.
We find the car and Kirsten is in the pilot seat and as always I’m navigating.
We’re on the road and we don’t have to be in Prague until Wednesday afternoon.
So the plan is to Vander our way to Dresden turn in the car and take the train to Prague.
Remember that’s the plan.
We stop in a few small towns as we’re vandering ….not a care in the world. We’re experts at finding a place to sleep. We could have stayed in one or two earlier town but it’s early and we keep vandering.
Yeah, it’s now past 6 PM Kirsten is getting worried the last 10 plus hotels have been over booked. Yep, this could be the trip we sleep in the car.
We keep pushing forward and finally we found a Gasthaus close to Marburg. The room was perfect the food was delicious and the beer was plentiful. And it was only $60 Euros.
Great meal and great room, I’ll keep this address.
Good night
