Day 6 - Hue
It's 5.30am, we are in the bus to Hue. I have slept well, but I usually do! I seem to have the ability to be able to sleep anywhere!
Being on the bus hasn't really been any different to being in bed! I woke up because the bus stopped to do a pick up, four and a half hours to go, so think I'll get back to watching the film I was watching last night; The Killing Fields.
I didn't manage to finish the film; I just kept on falling to sleep! It was a long journey, twelve and a half hours, but amazingly, I didn't notice! Probably due to excess sleeping.... Lol
We decided to have breakfast on the way to the hotel in order to shorten the walk with our backpacks on.
A man brought his daughter to our table to ask if she could talk with us to help improve her English. Her name was Dinh, she was twelve years old. Her English was probably better than ours, definitely grammatically better! We sat chatting for about an hour, and it was an absolute pleasure to do so. She gave us good
information on how to spend our day.
We continued our walk to the hotel, which took about ten minutes. We were met with fruit juice and fresh fruit on arrival. Our room is really nice, a good size and a working shower.... Yyyayyy.
We took our time getting showered and changed ready to set off for the day.
The first stop was to get a rickshaw over to the Citadel City, although our destination was lost in translation so we ended up at the market. It was huge, and do compact that it was uncomfortable. We shopped for a while. Helen bought a small jade and gold pendant, I got another Buddha. We sat in one of the all stall for iced green tea. The lady serving us was so lovely, as are all the people we haven't so far! We took photos of her with us, she loved it!
After the market we headed off for the Citadel City. We were too late to enter the palace, so opted for an hour rickshaw your with me Hue! This proved to be a great choice. He was really knowledgeable about the history of the old city.
We started at the original home where Ho Chi Minh lived from being five years old. We were taken up to the top of the city wall; it was really high and offered great views of both the new, and the old cities. We visited a women's temple pagoda, and the men's Island pagoda. I did enjoy the tour with Mr Hue. So I was pleased we did it.
After behind dropped off at the bridge we decided to sit on the banks of the Perfume River for iced lemon tea and a well deserved rest.
We decided to go to find somewhere to have our evening meal so set off walking along the backside. We walked over the beautifully lit bridge to the other side. At this point we needed to turn left, but on the right hand side it was also so beautifully lit up that we were attracted like moths to the light..... We just had to go right! There were lots of shops in the style of traditional Chinese houses, but sadly no restaurants, so eventually we turned around to walk in the direction of our hotel. As we passed the foot of the
bridge we could see the most amazing building that presented like a lotus flower. It was a three story restaurant. We stopped there for our meal, and it was definitely a good choice. We both had Vietnamese food and was very happy with it. We continued our walk along the bank and into town, which by now was all lit up and buzzing, but we have another early start tomorrow, so straight back to the hotel for us!
