First Stop

All,

After an arduous journey we have arrived in Ko SAmui and are safely deposited in our hotel - which is pretty good. To give you an example of how life here is a little bit different than home on our first night here the electricity (which includes air con!) went out twice - the second time for almost 4 hours and we have been informed that the hotel will have no electricity tomorrow for pretty much the whole day.........needless to say no one here seems to think that this is a major issue or something that you should concerned about.

Onwards with a good old gloat: it's constantly warm (verging on hot), the people are friendly, the local food is great and the beer cheap (and cold). We're averaging about 4 pounds per meal (including booze of course), and sleeping more than we're awake. It's hard, but we're presenting the "stiff upper lip" in the face of adversity.

Jo says I should tell you about the lady dancers as she was obviously fixated with all these shouting Thai women (or lady-boys (the mind boggles)) as they seek our attention at the bar-side. I'm touched by their friendliness and goodwill (or something). As you might imagine, people-watching offers endless hours of entertainment as a motley crew meander down the main drag in a town burgeoning with bizarre pole-dancing bars.

RAlph has finally let me have the keyboard......I wont comment on the pole dancing girls/biys/whatever.....I'll leave RAlph have his moment of glory....it'll be shortlived!

Anyway we must run..........beer to drink, sun to worship and generally loads of non work activities to keep us occupied.

My sympathies guys, looks shocking, so sorry for you! I would love to attach a picture of the view from my flat (Vauxhall bus station) but I don't want to make you too homesick. I've had a fantastic week, had all 4 wisdom teeth removed on Monday, finally managed to eat a biscuit TODAY, I look like a hamster, it's all good!! Keep your respective chins up, I'm sure things will get better...! Love Rach

Ralph/Jo Needless to say I am hugely relieved that you both arrived safe and well. I will, of course, forward the good news on to both sets of parents but as you imagine, darling brother, reading your email was done with a winced eye....as an experienced ex sales and marketing director, you forgot the number rule...know who your target audience is...far too much information for a sibling to digest!!!
