It has definitely sunk in that Im in Thailand and holy shite are the only words that come to mind. After a sleepless plane ride, I stepped out into the muggy smelly Bangkok air at 11pm with no idea what I was doing. I knew to catch the A1 bus and get off near a 7-11. I met two people on the bus from New Zealand who planned to go to vancouver and more importantly Big White. We chatted until the bus driver told me I was at my stop. It was nice to know I was almost at somewhere to sleep as I was SOO tired and really needed a bed. Unfortunately this wasnt going to happen. WELCOME TO THAILAND. I hopped off the bus and was completely lost. I was supposed to look for a Christian College and the 7-11 to know I was near. There are 7-11s on everycorner in Bangkok so that left me with an address in english so no-one could read it and a Christian college. Everyone I asked either wanted to sleep with me or drive me there in their tuk-tuk or on their motor bike. I knew it was close to it was up to some guessing for me rather than paying a guy to take me to his uncle's tailor or 'precious' gem shop first. I met a real nice chap who was willing to walk me to my hostel as he spoke english well and knew where it was. It turned out he wanted to come INSIDE the hostel with me. I gave my goodbyes as quickly as I could and continued to walk down this random street for another 5 LONG minutes. It hit me, 'Oh my buddha! The Christian College!'. I scurried my way across the street and some guy asked me if I was looking for a small hotel. I showed him the directions and he pointed down a dark alleyway. Needless to say, I was very, VERY reluctant to follow his outstrecthed finger's direction but I was desperate and really wanted sleep. I walked down this alleyway just waiting to be jumped and was ready to run. I watched my back and the man who directed me was still watching me walk. I turned back to face the direction I was walking and out from the shadows jumped a dark figure. I tensed up and was about to run when I realized it was just a stray can not yet cooked by the street vendors. I continued to walk and looked down an adjacent alleyway to see my destination, the hostel 'THE URBAN AGE' hidden in the back alley of Somai Soi 8 road. TOnight was thankfully not my night to get jumped. payed reception and hiked my way of 5 flights of stairs until I reached my room and bed. My head hit the pillow and that was it for he night.
