We recrossed the bridge by the Glen Canyon Dam and said goodbye to Lake Powell. We drove north on Hwy 89 through Kanab, Glendale and Hatch through such beautiful and varied landscapes. That's what I love about Utah, the vistas are ever-changing and always special. At Hwy 12 we turned east to the Dixie National Forest and the Red Canyon campground where we set up camp. After a quick lunch we headed to Bryce Canyon National Park. We drove the park road and stopped at most of the overlooks. Sean enjoyed the one called Fairyland best because he and Papa got to take a trail out onto the rocks.

We drove north on scenic Hwy 89 through beautiful green valleys with the Sevier River meandering along beside us. As we neared Big Rock Candy Mountain, the valleys became rocky and rough, and the quiet river was full of rapids. We watched rafters enjoying their rides down the river. Then it was back to interstate travel on I-70, but the traffic was light and we saw our first triples (semi trucks pulling 3 trailers.) The scenery

changed frequently with varying colors, altitudes and attitudes. There was a stretch of 105 miles of interstate with no gas stations. There were signs warning that fuel would be unavailable, but those signs were just before the final fuel stop in Salina, Utah, where the gas stations took advantage of their location by jacking up prices. We took Hwy 191 south to Moab, where we set up at Canyonlands RV before heading to Arches National Park.

At Arches Sean and Kerry climbed up to one of the arches in the Windows area. We drove around and enjoyed the rock formations and whimsical names given to them. From there we drove to Canyonlands National Park through Dead Horse Point SP. Canyonlands is still so serene and beautiful.

It is much hotter in Moab than we have been enjoying lately. We've been spoiled by highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's.

Cool Sean
We're enjoying Sean as he takes in and takes over the West. We know he makes the trip much more special for the "old folks", too.
