We drove south from Moab, through varied scenery, past Wilson Arch and Church Rock to Monticello, UT. At Monticello we turned east on Hwy 491 and drove through green farm valleys and tidy small towns to Cortez, CO. Our campground is right across the highway from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park.

After setting up the camper, we drove through Mesa Verde, stopping at overlooks. Kerry and Sean walked down to Spruce Tree House ruins, where Sean got to climb down a ladder into one of the rooms. Then back to camp so Sean could swim and play mini golf and I could do laundry.

We drove down to Four Corners so Sean could stand in 4 states at one time. The Navajo tribe own the property and are making a killing there. They charge $5 per person to go to the marker on the ground and take pictures. Surrounding the marker are rows of Navajo shops, like a flea market, where they sell their jewelry and other treasures.

From there we drove through the desert that

makes up most of the Navajo nation, with its colors ranging from white to yellow, to pink, orange, red and brown. At Kayenta we turned north through Monument Valley, where we kept expecting cowboys to come riding through.

We drove past the Mexican Hat at Mexican Hat (imagine that,) UT, then through the Valley of the Ancients National Monument in Colorado. Now back at camp for more swimming. Ten year-olds need a lot of swimming.
