Here we are! Buddies since 6th grade at Jefferson elementary. Hard to believe. She hasn't age a bit but I sure need my hair done!
Packed up and left our wonderful RV spot in Charleston to travel to Charlotte. Along the way we stopped off in Kershaw, SC to visit a friend of mine that I went to elementary school with. She and her boyfriend lived in Clovis for years and had a big horse arena but about 6 years ago they moved here to South Carolina and bought over 300 hundred acres and built a beautiful horse stable. She has Paso Fino horses and she competes with them. It is nothing like the western riding. They wear what I call "proper" attire and these horse are small but very regal. It is beautiful to watch. She trains and boards as well. Like I said, she and Johnny have quite the spread and it was really fun to visit and see their place. We ended up going to dinner so we didn't get out of there until after 8pm which put us into Charlotte after 10pm. It wasn't a bad drive but we were tired when we finally got everything set up and shut down. Slept like babies.

We are staying at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. It is nothing fancy but it is big, spacious, and convenient to the things we want to see and do. We didn't do much yesterday since we had gotten to bed so late and we both were a little tired. We noticed on the HUGE jumbo-tron out front that they have racing shoot-outs every Tuesday during the summer so we decided to check it out. Well, you have to realize that people here look at racing like we look at baseball. They go to the track on Tuesday nights like we would go to Chuckansi Park to watch a ball game. The stands were packed with families and their coolers of pop and snacks. It was really fun and different. It was the last day of school so they had this fun thing that they do where they race school busses. Yes, I said school busses. The principal is the driver and the kids sit by school in the stand and cheer him on. It is hilarious! I took pictures for you to see because I knew you wouldn't believe me. Cool idea I think. The other races were kids in the 12-16 year range who race these little midget cars. They are small cars but the haul butt. They bump and push each other around, kind of like the NASCAR guys. It is very competitive. These guys are really good it is hard to believe they are so young.

We are going to go to the Billy Graham Library tomorrow. I am really looking forward to that as it is the one thing that I have wanted to do on this trip. More blogs to come soon! Hope you are all surviving the heat. It has been in the high 80's here with an evening thunderstorm every evening. Ahhh, the South. 😊K
