Got up bright and early to drop Karlie off at daycare by 8am. She had such a great time yesterday with Charlie the owner and his dog Rocket, the German Shepherd. I think they have some more dogs joining them today as it is Friday and I guess owners give their dog a treat on Fridays. Crazy what we do for our pets nowadays.
We caught the ferry over to the Island of Fort Sumter where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. The battle lasted only 34 hours before the quarters were entirely burned. The Civil War that had so long been dreaded had begun. Even though the fort is just a shell of what it once was, you can still get a feel of what it must have been like. If you are any kind of history buff you will enjoy this tour.
After the tour we walked around downtown Charleston and then had lunch at Hyman's Seafood & Deli. It is a touristy place that a lot of famous people have eaten at. They put a little brass plate on the table of who has sat where you are sitting. I took a picture
of who has sat where I did. I'll give you a hint: Ice, Ice Baby. Don and I didn't know who the person was that sat where he was sitting so I didn't bother taking a picture. HAHAHA! Now that I think about it I should have because one of you probably would have known and then you could tell us. Dummies! We had a wonderful waitress who had great suggestions on what we should try. We started with fried green tomatoes over cheesy grits. Sounds disgusting but it was good. Ten she brought us hushpuppies, which we don't usually like but they had a homemade cajun mayo that was to die for! Then she brought us some coleslaw which neither of us cared for because it was too vinegary. We like it more sweet. Then we had our meal, FINALLY. I had a turkey & corned beef reuben on rye and he had the fish sampler. They were both excellent but we had eaten so much by this time that we were stuffed so we took most of it home.
Luckily we had to walk back to the truck as we needed to walk some of the meal
off. Then we were off to get our tired puppy at daycare. we made it home before the thunderstorm hit which was perfect timing. It was nice just sitting here listening to the rain pitter patter on the roof. Needless to say we all slept like babies that night.
Yesterday was a down day. I did some laundry and not much else. Today we went to brunch at a Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dive's place. It was called Early Bird Diner. It was very tiny, crowded and good. It has been a long time since we have visited one of these. Can't remember our count but I know it is in the 20's. You'll never catch us Chandler's!
We are leaving here tomorrow to head to Charlotte, NC and stay at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Going to visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame and some other places while we are there. I have a grade school friend that lives in Kershaw, SC which is along the the way that we are going to visit also. Going to be another exciting day. Talk to you soon! 😊K
