Happy Veteran's Day! It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.
We woke up at 6 am; it's 19 degrees, frost on the truck! Hot showers, eggs, coffee, tea and we are ready to go. Our morning drive is stunning- winding through the mountains, the river following along the road, the sunrise reflecting in the water, fishermen in the river, little towns.
Our destination today is Las Vegas. Jason and Amy live there and it's a good stopping place for this long journey. I will work from there this week and then fly to Atlanta from there on Sunday. Ken will stay probably until Monday and then head home to Tucson with the RV. Time to settle back in our real home. I will continue to work remote every other week and fly to Atlanta....until December 20. That's when my contract ends and who knows where I will be after that. The life of a traveling consultant!
We spent the day enjoying the drive...stopping along the way to take pictures and stretch. We stopped in Beaver, Utah to fuel up. There was a Tire shop at the Truck Stop.
A guy came over and told Ken that he noticed one of our tires on the RV had a bulge. Upon examining, Ken saw that all 4 tires were separating and bad. He knew he was going to have to replace them after this trip but after examining, he saw that they were worse than he thought. I was talking to my granddaughter Lola (7 years old) on the cell at the time when we were discussing whether to buy 2 or 4 tires. She wanted in on the decision. She said GeeGee tell Pops he should buy 4 tires...you've had the RV for 3 years and it's time to buy new tires, so get 4 and you won't have to worry about it for awhile. She's so funny...and smart. So we took the plunge! I told Ken that was his Christmas present- mine too!!
Just when you think you couldn't possibly see anything as stunning as the Rockies, you get near the Arizona/Utah border and it's breathtaking. The sunset was beautiful. We were getting pretty tired. We finally arrived at the RV Park in Vegas around 6pm. We got a spot right one site over from Jason and
Amy! We quickly unhooked and jumped in her car and went to dinner. It's so good to hug family! We went to Town Square to California Kitchen but the wait was 30 minutes so we went to Brio- 15 minute wait. Everyone is out tonight and it's busy. The temperature here is about 65 so it was perfect as they seated us outside. We had a nice dinner (grilled mahi, vegetables) and caught up. All the shops are decorated for Christmas and it's so festive. We stopped in a furniture store called 'Lovesac'. They had this gigantic comfy bean bag chair (although I'm sure it wasn't filled with beans) and we took turns plopping down in it-it was big enough for two. I didn't think I would be able to get out.
We headed back to the RV. Amy hadn't seen ours and I hadn't seen theirs so we spent some time hanging out together. I was fading fast so we said goodnight. I couldn't even read...fell asleep.
Our journey across the US has been amazing. We left Tucson in our RV in August of 2012, driving across I-40 to Atlanta. We have had so many great experiences,
met so many wonderful Americans, saw more beauty than I ever could have imagined. Driving home via St. Louis and I-70 was breathtaking. I'm emotional to see it end, but thankful for the experience and thankful for the knowledge that God has a hand in where He will lead us next. I will continue to blog and hope you continue to follow us.
Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers... the mind can never break off from the journey.
