Wow, crossing over the mountains outside of Denver. If you haven't done it, put it on your bucket list. In fact the whole drive from Denver to the Utah border is something you should do. I-70 winds along the Eagle and Colorado River through Vail and Aspen and many ski towns and other small towns between the mountain ranges. It's hard to get much done other than look out the window. Henna called to chat; we got a funny email from Annie-I miss my girlfriends.
It was actually kind of tense pulling the RV over the mountains. We had stopped at a Chipotle before climbing the mountain and Ken had to put his burrito down so he could concentrate on driving. We did fine, you just had to be careful. There was snow on the mountains and along the edge of the highway. We saw skiers on the mountains. It is so pretty.
We arrived at River Dance RV Resort around 4:30. It's funny how so many RV parks call themselves resorts and although River Dance is very nice nestled in the mountains, it's not a resort; but then again after the Walmart parking lot, this does feel like
a resort. We set up, called Jason and Amy, Josh (got voice mail) and texted Justen. Miss family! It's getting chilly out..it's supposed to go down to 26 tonight. We called Uncle to give him an update on our travels. He has a map spread out on his kitchen island. He loves tracking (the old fashioned way) where we are.
We drove to dinner. I found the Gypsum Creekside Grill on Trip Advisor. It had the number one rating in Gypsum (there are reviews for 6 other restaurants!). We pulled in and there were only about 4 other cars in the parking lot, which is always a bit scary for me...is the food fresh? But it is Sunday night. We are greeted by a friendly lady who came from the bar. She asked us if we want to sit by the warm fire (I hope it is warm this time) and we do and it is so warm and cozy. I ordered the cod with broccoli and cauliflower; Ken got shrimp with sundried tomatoes and polenta. The food was outstanding. I will have to add my review on Trip Advisor! Our waitress, Karen is from Las Vegas. She lives
here in Gypsum with her husband but still has a home in Vegas. They were retired (he was a policeman) and he got offered a job with the TSA at the airport in Gypsum. She told us this is the airport that the skiers fly into to go to Vail. Even Air Force One has landed there. It's a cute little town. We enjoyed talking to her. When we left the restaurant, it was much colder; the temperature is dropping.
We return to the RV and enjoy looking up at the thousands of stars above us. We head back inside where it is warm and get ready for bed. We are tired. It's a lot of traveling in a few days.
