D15: Possible new favourite spot - Plitvice Lakes

I really should just post photos from today - they say more than anything I could type.

(Internet connection is woefully bad here... so... photos might wait until tomorrow. I'll be back in Zagreb at night, so I'll have proper wifi.)

Plitvice is stunningly beautiful - one of the nicest places I’ve ever been, and that is saying something. Again, I fear the photos don’t do it justice... even if they are lovely. The colour of the water, the waterfalls, the trees, the waterfalls, the electric blue dragonflies... did I mention the waterfalls?

I don’t think there’s a spot in the park where you can’t hear a waterfall, and very few places where you don’t see them. They are everywhere - big, small, solo, in a cluster... just all sorts. Truth be told I much preferred the smaller ones than the “big one” at one end of the lakes... it may be tall, but so what? The others you can hear the roar, you can see (and feel!) the mist, hear the gurgling of the baby ones... ah, it is heaven here.

The water itself in the lakes is even beautiful - gorgeous blue/green colour, even more vibrant I think than when I was in Slovenia. (Vintgar Gorge is still one of the fav places I’ve been. Plitvice is up there with it now.) Not only is the colour spectacular, but the clarity and the stillness of the water is beautiful.

And I can’t get over the amount of dragonflies they have here..!! They have the everyday regular ones, but the majority I saw were electric blue. Just gorgeous. I kept trying to get photos with my camera but they would only land for a minute or so. But then one landed right beside my phone - ah-ha! Perfect shot. New friend. I also saw one that a vibrant deep green, but he got away before I could lift my camera.

So yes, needless to say I spent the day hiking along the lakes. Ok. Hiking is a little generous because they are well maintained solid paths that aren’t really “hiking” paths... but you get the idea. I’d say my only complaint about it here is the amount of tourists (and tour groups... shudder). Yes, I’m aware I too am a tourist... but if I’m going to be out in nature I’d rather not be surrounded by 50 people at every single turn.

Thankfully I did find a few quiet spots - I relished those moments - one of them included me taking my book out to do some reading. (It really was a quiet spot! spent a good hour there before braving the crowds again.

Lovely, lovely day.

PS. Send help - the mosquitoes have found me as I'm writing this on the patio.

Dragonflies love you
Wow - it is stunning - love the waterfalls. And dragonflies do love you - remember the one who came to church with you?

Yes :) dragonflies love me, as I love them. I forgot to tell you. There was a flying, dancing bag in the Tube when I was in London. I kept a watchful eye on it as to not have a repeat of that childhood memory.
