Decided literrally last minute to take a quickie to a European city of note, so got an excellent deal to fly return with Air France from Aberdeen. (Cheaper than central belt inc train fare and night in Thistle Hotel)

Firstly the 'Barcelona Card' It's definately worth working out how many journeys you'll be making on the metro etc to be sure you get value for money. The Metro is one of those like Paris, a few minutes getting the gist, and you're fine. Watch out however for some stations having a mad warren of walkways!

I believe most on budget travel stay in the Las Ramblas area, but I chose the more loco option of 'Gracia' An explorable mix of happy locals and interesting eateries and charming sqaures.
Chose the budget hotel Hostales HMB, basic but very clean and satisfactory.

A vist to the Nou Camp is a worthy distraction if you have an interest in football, if not, then you're paying to look at 98,000 seats stacked up over a bit of grass.

For a day out of town and on a beach then it's worth taking a short local train ride south to Sitges, once you're fed up of the beach there are plenty of shops to ponder.
